I've walked through the metal detectors at a federal building while carrying, heard it go off, and instantly remembered that I forgot something in the car. :)

Went thru all of Carlsbad Caverns carrying my X9. Stood right next to an NPS LEO Ranger and chatted him up while waiting to enter the cave, which is only accessible thru a federal facility. Realized I was armed after I took my jacket off and felt my shirt tug on the grip. Passed six or seven more throughout the entire tour, then passed by another couple on my way out. Heaviest LEO presence I’ve ever seen in a National Park.

The post office is a nothing burger compared to that.

I was a new CHL holder and was CC in a Supertuk when I was pulled over by a DPS officer. I was about 5 miles West of the Sierra Blanca check point. The Officer ( obviously a rookie) asked me to throw my keys onto the passenger seat and then get out and go to the back of my truck. Within 2 min. I was surrounded by 5 DPS cars. A very large Officer came up and told me take a seat on my tailgate. Officers began going around my truck tapping on the quarter panels. The large Officer ( obviously in charge) asked me if I would consent to a canine search. I said sure if it was quick. ( I had another 500 miles to go ). I told him the check point up ahead always had a dog we could go to if it was going to be too long. About that time the DPS dog showed up and began searching and the Officer began shooting the breeze with me. That is when I remembered I was CCing ( I kept my mouth shut about the pistol.) After they were satisfied I was clean they said I was free to go. I said looking for a silver 3500 Dodge huh? He said yep and smiled. No one had ever asked me for ID, but as the “ rookie escorted me to my truck. He said “ now remember it’s 80 in an 80, not 82 Mr. X. . He knew my name , I just said yes sir.

I got the same search treatment at the BP check point.

Let me preface this story by saying only a fool would admit to committing a felony on a public forum.

So I know a guy who banks with Navy Federal Credit Union, and has since he got out of boot camp in the late 80’s. Mobile apps and the internet have made it so there is almost no point in having a local bank. So this guy needed to deposit a large sum of cash, and he looked up the address for NFCU in the DFW metroplex, and chose the one that was closest and most convenient to him, put that address into his phone, and started his 2 hour journey east. Unbeknownst to said individual, that branch of NFCU was not only on base, it was inside the commissary building. Said individual’s wife decided how fortuitous that they found themselves in a much larger commissary than they were used to and should do some shopping. Said individual deposits his cash, then catches up with his wife who was currently attempting to spend a small fortune in the commissary. Upon reaching the register, the cashier asked for military ID, and said individual reaches back for his wallet and his wrist makes contact with his EDC on the back of his right hip where It always rides. Said individual tried to maintain his composure while paying and exiting the facility as expeditiously as possible. After the treasure trove of “bargains” were loaded and they had left the base, said individual remarked to his wife how lucky they were to get out of there without incident, to which she replies “you really shouldn’t have carried that on base and in the commissary”.

Nothing happening when I pull the trigger, is really the only recurring gun-related situation I’ve had in several various dreams.

In real life, “forgetting something in my car” has happened on occasion, most notably at an open-house at my wife’s work. They have heavy security and metal detectors.

    In a post office, YES!

Your LTC, or even Constitutional Carry, doesn't carry over to Post Office property!

US Post Offices are completely off limits per 39 C.F.R. § 232.1(l):

Weapons and explosives. Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law, rule or regulation, no person while on postal property may carry firearms, other dangerous or deadly weapons, or explosives, either openly or concealed, or store the same on postal property, except for official purposes.

They do not need signs. You legally can't even be armed in the parking lot.
The criminal law that the post office would rely on to prosecute you is not 39 CFR 232, but 18 USC 930 which is a federal misdemeanor, but does require posting:

    (h)
Notice of the provisions of subsections (a) and (b) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal facility, and notice of subsection (e) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal court facility, and no person shall be convicted of an offense under subsection (a) or (e) with respect to a Federal facility if such notice is not so posted at such facility, unless such person had actual notice of subsection (a) or (e), as the case may be.

I have this recurring nightmare of standing in line in the post office and forgetting that I am armed -- and then having someone spot my "Bulldog bulge" and sound an alarm. Anyone else have this one?
What holster you using? And where can i buy it haha. Mine is not uncomfortable but definitely know its there

...And one more thing concerning the OP. Carrying a firearm on your person, is supposed to be comforting, not comfortable.

In all honesty, you should never "forget" that it's there. Though, in a sense, many of us have. Not saying we truly forgot we had it, just saying we were accustomed to it being there. Just as you are with a watch or wallet. It's there, where it needs to be, until needed, or put to use. As stated previously, you should be comfortable with carrying it. Everyday. Everywhere you can legally carry.

Good luck with that thinking, you're gonna need it!

Off work I make sure to not miss signs posted. Pretty good about spotting them. Even the ones that aren’t legal; not conspicuous.

My job has me in banks, credit unions, hospitals and schools with my Glock all the time so outside of work I make the extra effort to combat that muscle memory of having a gun on my hip and just hopping out of a rig.
