Can I get a second trip in the Way Back machine? Or maybe a third or 4th? Lemme spin a tale...

Trip #2 - travel back to 1959 - again, I'm CEO of Browning Arms. I've heard that Armalite is having some financial troubles. We buy Armalite and bring them under the Browning Arms family and keep the rights to the AR-15 and then move to secure government contracts for these rifles under the Browning name. The Browning M16 becomes adopted by the United States Army and then more widely by all branches and continues the legacy of US armed forces using Browning machine guns to equip our fighting men.

Trip #3 - 1977 - Colt is facing serious financial troubles because its 1911 and revolver lines just aren't as popular as they had been thanks to the likes of Smith & Wesson double action pistols and revolvers (especially in light of the Model 29's rise in popularity following the Dirty Harry movies) and Browning Arms importation deal with Sig Sauer to import the Sig P220 under the Browning BDA name. With Browning securing the lucrative M16 contract with the US military they have solidified their financial position and grown to be the largest gun maker in the US. Once more I assume the throne of CEO of Browning Arms and secure Colt and all its patents.

This is a good time for the heirs of John Moses Browning, because his seminal pistol design - the M1911 - will now be produced under the Browning name instead of Colt's, while Colt will continue to operate and focus primarily on revolvers, some of her engineers are tasked with teaming up with designers for Browning and Smith & Wesson (a Browning subsidiary since 1967 now) for designing a new double action pistol to compete in the upcoming trials for a new service pistol to replace the aging M1911 as the sidearm of the US armed forces.

This acquesition also bolsters Browning as it now the supplier for both the primary service rifle AND sidearm for the US military, putting them in a good position going into the M9 trials which began this year, along with positioning themselves to be the almost exclusive supplier of arms to civilian law enforcement agencies nationwide, between its Browning, Smith & Wesson, and Colt lines.

Going into the 1980's sees the new Browning M9 - which takes ergonomic traits from the P35, Colt SSP / M1971 and S&W 59 series pistols and melds them with a smooth double action trigger, an easy to reach ambi safety-decocker lever, bonus ambi magazine release, the Sig inspired modified Browning lockup that locks on the barrel hood, and not seperate locking lugs and a 16-round magazine. The new gun goes on to the XM9 trials in 1983, being one of the only guns submitted to the testing that met the requirements in the solicitation put out by the Army putting it in the lead going into the final trials in 1984. The new design beats the Italian Beretta 92FS in terms of capacity, ergonomics and reliabilty in the sand and mud tests and despite coming in with a slightly higher per-unit price of $200 per pistol, Browning is awarded the M9 service pistol contract over the competitors of HK, Ruger, and Sig Sauer. The new gun is heavily marketed as well to law enforcement agencies looking to switch to a semi-auto pistol from their .357 or .38 revolvers.

The new Browning M9 is also adopted by the FBI in the early 1980's - and after a horrific shootout with some robbery suspects in Miami in 1986 - the FBI works closely with them and Federal Cartridge Company to redesign their pistol to accomodate a heavier caliber while retaining the same ergonomics. The .40 Browning Automatic Pistol - aka "The BAP" caliber is born. Hearing rumors that shovel-maker turned plastic gun company Glock is working to rush their BAP-gun to market, Browning announces two new pistol models as the final SAAMI specs for the .40 BAP are adopted - the M40FS and the M40 Detective. The M40FS will be a generational evolution of the M9 pistol retrofitted for the higher pressure, harder hitting .40BAP - a full size 14-round duty pistol with a stainless steel frame and slide. The M40 Detective is a compact version - similar in size to the Smith & Wesson Chief Special 6906 and aimed at plain clothes police and citizen concealed carriers.

BAP guns become the go-to sidearm of cops across the country thanks to a one-for-one trade in program taking in the old police pistols in .38, .357, .45 or 9mm for the new .40s, while Glock struggles to make inroads and eat Browning's market share with their plastic pistol. A young @Moonpie buys all the $150 plastic pistols he can get his hands on, squirrelling them away for TEOTWAKI trading stock, along side crates of $60 SKS's and Mosin Nagants.

As the 1990s march along, a new generation of soldiers and cops are raised up, with limper wrists, softer skin, and complaints of the old guns being too heavy. Glock Inc pushes hard with their light weight tupperware guns so simple that a caveman can take them apart. Browning Arms is forced to compete with this mess.

A grifter from Arkansas takes the White House in 1992 and promises to "end gun violence" - and works with the NRA to craft legislation to limit features and capacity of civilian firearms.

The time traveling CEO makes one final time jump (#4) and dumps all of the profits for the last year into defeating the campaign that would seriously impact the citizens (and their customers) rights, and negatively impact Browning's bottom line. The "Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act" is ultimately defeated and a lizard in a fancy but ill fitted suit with the initals WLP is forced to step down from his position with a leading gun-rights organization after its dirty deeds are brought to light.

Citizens remain capable of buying the full line of Browning AR15 rifles, with all their features and the standard 30 round magazines, along with the newly released P9 and P40 series pistols - polymer framed high capacity competitors with Glock's plastic fantastics.

The Arkansas grifter is a one-term president after failing to secure his primary legislative goal and the 1994 mid term elections see a huge red wave pushing back against the anti-gun shenanigans and the scandals that come to light.

Rainbows and puppy dogs are free on every corner, along with bouquets of 30 round rifle magazines and 15 or 18 round pistol magazines. Y2K comes and goes. A slightly older Moonpie sells his stockpile of Glock pistols for $300 a piece during the run up to Y2K and all the panic buying that ensues. He uses his doubled money to buy more Browning 1911's, Spam, and cases of surplus .45 ammo.
