If I hadn't read the dry humor in your other posts, I'd have thought you were trolling for an argument. LOL....good one.

Hey I'm being serious. I won't have an AR in my arsenal unless I win it in a contest. And then I'd probably sell it and get an AK.

I typically keep a spare bolt and firing pin in the pistol grip. I build 3-4 a year and always use a stock or grip that has storage space. Like someone mentioned already, build a few and you'll have spare parts coming out of your ears! Some guys I talk to say to keep spare gas tubes but I feel it unnecessary. It takes a whole lotta rounds down range to burn through one. At that point, I'd be grabbing a spare AR.

There are certain parts on any firearm that can break or wear out easily and it only makes sense to keep spares. Springs are a good example. They do go bad after enough rounds.

On the other hand, there are parts that rarely go bad unless you really, really shoot a lot of rounds. A barrel, for example. I wouldn't bother to keep a spare. Too much cost and if that goes out, you're probably best off reaching for another rifle.

If you do any work on a firearm, other than simple cleaning, there are also parts that are good to keep around just in case you lose or break a part. The AR platform has a plethora of little, tiny springs and retainers that are extraordinarily easy to lose on the workbench, or to kink while you're installing a new accessory. Brownells and Midway (amongst others) carry cheap repair kits with those little parts. If you don't need them, it's ok because you don't have a lot of money invested, but if you NEED one of those little bitty springs late one night, it's worth it's weight in gold.
