I just switched scope mounts on my M70. I took the Warne quick disconnect cant mount from my ar15 I mounted the Leupold vx3 h.d. Scope to give me enough room to put a 50 mm objective scope later. After I bore sighted it it took me about 11 rounds to zero and the last 9 to verify the zero. I used Hornady American White tail 130 grain and it was pretty accurate. Here are my last 2 3 shot groups

Both groups are 1 moa and both have 2 shots in the same hole. Quite frankly it’s my best 2 groups at 100 yards ever. Pics of the mount coming later.

Nice shooting, I really like the .270 Winchester. I prefer to use a 140 gn handload but I feel it’s a bit too much for the deer around here. So I’m going to try 130gn SST bullets.

Looking forward to seeing your scope & mount set up.

Here’s my rig, plenty of room for a 50mm scope don’t you think?

If you shoot 10 shot groups and use the center of that group to zero your scope you’ll have a much more exact zero and know exactly how your rifle shoots. I usually shoot 10 shots, zero and move out to 500 yards and adjust my velocity to hit the center of the target. I can have a new rifle with good ammunition setup very quickly now with this method.

    I don't reload.
    Is this a thing?

Yes. Doesn’t matter if you reload or not. You’ll need a velocity close enough for your ballistics calculator to get you on target at 500 yards or whatever and a reliable dialing scope. Adjust mils or MOA til you are at the center of target then adjust velocity to correspond with the elevation that you dialed to center your target. If you have wind you’ll have to use the reticle for the wind holdover.

How does one adjust velocity if they don't reload?

I load those 130s for my son's 270. Very happy with them. Most are DRT.

Thanks for all the input it’s all appreciated and considered. I zeroed at 100 yards and before I send the ballistics to leupold for the cds dial I’m going to get my ammo and rifle measured for muzzle velocity and all the other dope and move forward. I use Hornady American Whitetail 130 gr ammo that hits on all cylinders for my go to hunting round. It’s really well made and is cost effective, now to take it on an official hunt next Nov for whitetail here in Texas. Wish me luck!

I buy those 129g Whitetail bullets for my daughter to use in her 6.5cm rifle. Very good results. All deer were DRT. Very light recoil.
