Are you using any clips of any sort?

I think a recumbent would be cool. I’ve tried a 2 wheel recumbent. I’ve seen 3 wheelers too.

No ‘’clips’’, and I never fall while moving (well, almost never). The falls are from standing still, especially dismounting. At 80, I’m afraid to get hurt.

While working @ UTMB in the early years of this century, I saw lots of recumbent bikes being used for commuting along the SeaWall walkway.

But several of our Physicians got run-over & killed on the city streets b/t the SeaWall & the Med Center, as trucks couldn’t easily see them.

I’ve seen lots of adult trikes on bike paths in Circle C Ranch neighborhood in West Metro Houston, and a few around here. In « Cinco Ranch » South Austin, folks ride them in the residential streets.

Trikes can have a shade canopy for areas w/o natural shade. Old folks (like me) use them for errands, like trips to the corner store.

My hang-up is that I’ve « taken the ditch » to avoid accidents several times and the trikes aren’t as maneuverable as bikes or mountain bikes.

    Just seeking opinions.

From a ride in the Hill Country last weekend. Excuse the multiple post. Tapatalk only allows one at a time.

The most enjoyable ride I have had on a road bike.

    I’ve been collecting bikes.

Have an old Trek 8500 for when the trails call. A lot less now that I am older.

A Trek Earl fixed gear that I rode for about 10 years. Noticed I was starting to avoid hills so I picked up a Surly Long Haul trucker in 2019. It’s all steel and I am running 700x41 tires on it which make the crappy roads around here bearable.

An old Gary Fisher from 1991 is my beater.

My nextdoor neighbor in Houston had a $7,000 carbon fiber bike.

Has anyone here tried the (semi-pneumatic) bike tires ?

Nope. I already get enough dehydrated this time of year

You mentioned UTMB. Did you know either of the Dr Rahr’s working there then? My father in law was the head of the PA department and mother in law taught nursing.

No, I was stuck in NeuroRadiology the entire time. Liked the Island, not the School, so transferred back to UT Houston after a couple years.

Nice 16 mile ride through Cullen Park until I tripped and fell. Not riding just walking to the restroom, banged my head, shoulder, elbow and knee. Bike is fine, guess I'll be sticking close to home.

I’m old school tubes and tires. Running fat tires on the touring bike. I’ve had one flat in 4200 miles on it.

HOT! But I got off my butt and finished it. A '76 Peugeot AO 18. Not a super light, but 32# with old steel wheels, cranks, pedals, racks and cable lock is better than some. Maybe $300 with the vintage Suntour derailers, gravel tires, new bars, brakes, stem and cables. Old bike for an old man. Early or late in the neighborhood or the Spring Creek Greenway. And a '52 .38 spl Colt DTS in a discrete shoulder rig, just fyi.
