Much of “recoil” discomfort is in the anticipation.

In a life-or-death emergency, you won’t even feel the recoil.

Example; I’ve done thousands of “spinal taps’’, myelograms, & “LP’s”.

Those medical procedures have horrible reputations as painful. But many Docs don’t have the first clue re technique. We folks in my subspecialty have much greater experience & skill than most. I taught this stuff for decades.

When faced with a very apprehensive Patient, I’d take extra time to explain everything to them, telling them that I’d warn them just before the really painful part.

Then I’d carefully do the procedure. First thing they knew, I’d tell the Nurse to put a bandaid on. The entrie procedure would be over & they’d still be waiting for the really painful part.

They’d say “Gee, Doc, that wasn’t anything bad at all.”

Back to recoil: At the range, when you first try a .44Mag, you WILL be thInkIng “RECOIL”. Every time I go to range with Python, I flinch the first few rounds, despite doing this over 50 years, same gun.

But in an adrenaline pumping emergency, your mind will be on the threat, not the recoil !
