Brass body with a steel case head. Seems unnecessarily complicated, but it would make picking up your brass easier

Word has gone out in the last couple of weeks that the DOD plans to re-open several of the old ammo plants that they used back in WWII. Billion$ for re-fitting them and then more billion$ for production. It makes sense if they are suddenly switching to the 6.8. Winchester is taking the lead and the Lake City plant is involved.

As someone already pointed out, Uncle Sam doesn't reload. For a short period during the Obama Administration, military ranges were ordered to dispose of brass instead of selling it to recyclers. The financial impact of that embarrassed them enough that they backed off, but clearly the Commiecrats don't want military brass going to civilians. The new composite case is lighter than conventional ammo, cheaper to produce (because of high brass cost), and has a very strong base.

SIG has announced that they will produce a civilian version to be called the .277 SIG FURY. Supposedly it's ballistically similar to the .270 short mag.

I looked at the rifle and caliber they plan on changing over to. I can't see any reason that this should be the typical infantryman weapon. Almost all engagements are within 300 meters and this thing boasts performance above 6.5 creedmor.

You get less rounds, less capacity per magazine, and it's heavier. This is completely stupid. For Specops or special warfare missions I understand, but that 6.8x51 has no more armor penetration than a 5.56 when talking about level 4 plates, which is what most combat troops should and do wear.

Smart optic made by Vortex, too... I hope it has a mechanical reticle in addition to the calculated one for when the electronics shit the bed.

I was surprised they went with Vortex. The "just as good" guys should be happy. Disclaimer, I own quite a few Vortex products and am happy with them but will admit that some of the purchases were a cost/benefit compromise.
