I’m nearing 60 and getting more curmedgeounly according to my wife. Anyway, I have a few backpacks and sometimes use them when going on a long walk or hike to hold bottles of water and a water bowl for the family and dog. I also used to purposely pack one full of water bottles and heavy stuff and use it as a weighted pack to train for running biathlons at Waco Tactical Fitness. But for going shopping or to a restaurant or running errands around town I usually don’t have one.

As for others wearing them, I never really cared to notice. I suppose if I exercised greater situational awareness I should try to notice them more in case the backpack wearer might have explosives in it after what happened at the Boston Marathon bombing.

Note the men in blue pool-overs and blue jeans. They were not in a hurry to escape. Instead, they were communicating with each other, taking videos, then one of them locked the exit door, blocked evacuation route.
The top left image shows two FSB officers convoying one of the suspects. They wear the same kind of clothing.

It depends on which Doctor I'm going to and how I must dress. I can carry my wallet, backup phone battery, pistol, extra magazine and a few other things should I feel it's necessary.
What people think of it, they can kiss me right on my brown eye.
