This weekend while watching a video from New York City, i thought that I saw a picture of Law Enforcement with a M249 SAW mounted on a boat. Didn't think much about it. Today on Yahoo, I saw a photo of alleged Law enforcement with a M249 SAW mounted on a HUMVEE. Anybody else find their use of crew-served weapons as interesting?

State and/or Local law enforcement don't need to go through the 1033 program if they don't wish to. State and Local (including City & County) LE are legally permitted to make direct purchases of brand new NFA items from the manufacturer. NYPD Marine units could buy them straight from FN and there's NOTHING the federal gov't could do to nix the purchase. The purchase(s) are done tax-exempt via Form 5, and are also free from having to pay any excise tax.

    That place east of Waco....
Texas DPS has to deal with foreign invaders on a daily basis. Unless there's a danger of NYC being invaded by militant Canadians, their LEO's don't need belt-fed machine guns.

....besides, NYC doesn't need the firepower. They have gun control....

Thankfullly, you don't get to decide that fact. The Coast Guard can't be everywhere and there's a whole lot of stuff that the NYPD Marine units deal with that would curl your hair. Out on the water, it does not pay to be outgunned. Just saying.

20(+) years ago I did a JTF-6 mission on Falcon Lake. I can see the DPS practical application of the weapons on waterways for counter drug interdiction/human trafficking.

Diesel1959 agree with your comments in regards to the Coast Guard not being able to be everywhere.

Maverick44, great photos of the DPS gun boats. Thanks for posting the link!
