    FOOD LABELS

Modern food labels, especially those “required” by FDA, can be extremely misleading. “Food Industry” lobbyists have “gamed” the system & terminology to the point that, while not technically inaccurate, the labels can be extremely misleading; sadly intentionally so.

The scientific chemical names are usually correct, But the industry terms now allowed are useless. For instance, there are some 20 chemical sugars commonly found in, or added to, processed foods of all types. But, foods filled with many of those sugars can legally be labeled as “SUGAR FREE” if they don’t contain significant Sucose. Shortly after being eaten, all of those sugars, including Sucrose, are converted into GLUCOSE by natural digestive processes.

Caveat: I am not a specialist in. these areas, and haven’t worked in nutrition in some 40 years; but basic biochemistry hasn’t changed.

What to do? Learn to read the labels and consult your local Dietitian. The LSU Pennington Center website & publications may be of use.

“Diet Books” are loaded with nonsense. If diets and diet pills rteally worked long-term, we wouldn’t have so many overweight Pharmacists & Doctors.

“Health Food” stores & their “experts” are trying to sell you something; those things are frequently DANGEROUS.

Remember that the AMOUNTS of foods consumed can be as important, or more-so, than the types of foods consumed.

As the folks at U T Health, Dallas, say: Don’t eat when you are not hungry.

Rant over, take it or leave it.

Good Luck ! May GOD Bless you & yours.

Don't live a boring life food is there to enjoy. Grab a snack!
    <>

THE PROBLEM IS THIS: “What is in processed snack-foods?”

If you read the labels, most have terrible ingredients added in absurd amounts.

OTOH, one could chose popcorn, fruit, nuts, or most “non-processed” non-commercial items.

Just recently, i noticed a massive difference in sugars content b/t 2 similar snack-cracker items from the same company, and in very similar wrappers.

Not reading labels is asking for problems down the road.

    Yep
I think he is being sincere though

The diabetes rates of American Indians are horrible. Way more that other cultures and its not all genetic, diet is a big part
    <>

As a former Border Physician; the diabetes is genetic.

The diet brings symptoms & worsens the clinical courses.

Control of diet is the biggest help, IF the patient cooperates !

    That is not entirely true
Nobody is born 100% predisposed to get Type 2 diabetes

Think of it this way..your genetics can load the gun.
But your diet and lifestyle pull the trigger
