How do I know how long of a gas tube I need?

Depends on your barrel - a 12" DD MFR will cover a mid-length gas block. If you have a rifle barrel, you're gonna need one of those horrible railed gas blocks. (Well not NEED I suppose)... I would suggest a mid-length gas 16" barrel.
