While I don't think the US was involved in 9/11, I also don't think they wouldn't do something akin to it if they thought they could benefit.
Perhaps consider that Clinton gutted our military and worse, gutted our intelligence services by offering early retirements to mid-level intel officers. Up into the vacuum, a generation of low level (mostly female) intel personnel were placed into mid-level intel positions that they were not skilled or experienced to grasp. Bingo, the door was opened for the Saudi terrorists to come in to the USA almost unnoticed by the folks who were now in the positions to have noticed. A few years earlier, perhaps the Saudis would have been foiled but with the amateurs in place, BOOOM. I retired in my 40s with a lifetime retirement check and hefty going-away bonus.. Remember how the military had to be built up again and our intelligence services seem to have never come back and have turned into a bunch of politized hacks more intent on currying favor with their political masters than doing their jobs.
