Back story I was given an old lady rottweiler by a co worker who had to move to an apartment she said she was 14 but ain't no way I would guess in the 8 ish range. I have had her around 3 years with very fer issues she just wants to play and get petted and be the center of your attention.
She now picks fights with my other female dog or I should say the ones I have seen are started by her. Other dog is now is a 5 ish year old Belgian Mal who is also a good dog with people but hit or miss with other dogs. First couple of years went by with no issues but when the rott starts something the Mal finishes it. The rottie has come out of the battles with big lacerations and punctures the Mal has had a few puncture wounds and scratches. I think there have been 4 or 5 fights that I have witnessed and stopped. The Mal will not let go till she is choked out by lifting her collar she simply latches on and shakes her head. After the 2nd fight I purchased a bite stick from amazon and it works to get her to let go.
First and foremost my dogs are my family and are treated as such free range of the house while I am at work access to furniture
I think the rottie is suffering from mental issues now and mabey pain from age she will stand and bark in the corner and do other strange things. She was at the vet a couple months ago because I was worried she was sick or some kind of hormonal issue and more and more trouble standing up.
So now we get to the issue. I was sitting on the couch she was sitting in front of me getting petted. The Mal was laying next to us on the floor. And the rottie bit my arm enough to draw blood. I yelled at that point the Mal attacked her now I am dealing with a bloody arm and two strong dogs trying to kill each other at my feet from a sitting position. Needless to say I get them apart.
I would try and re-home the rott but with her seeming to be more and more unstable I would not be comfortable doing that. With her age and declining health I am fairly sure what I should do
But hate the thought of euthanasia by a vet.
Anyways I just needed to vent more than anything.
