Saw this on a friend of a friend's Facebook page

A lot of people don't realize the difference between sex and gender. Sex is what one is designated at birth based on one's genitalia, and gender is societies preconceived notions about sex. Gender is completely a societal construct based on the binary of Man and Woman (it's what makes us think blue and pink, sports and art, etc.) and I don't believe that those constructs should be a part of my life. I don't feel female (what I was assigned at birth), and I don't feel male, so I just sort of go with the flow without assigning myself

Gender is a very convoluted topic, and I am open to answer any questions I can, but it's honestly a very different experience for everyone. The main thing to understand is that parts do not define the person, and that gender is a spectrum, rather than an A or B choice.

    Emphasis added by me.

Gender is NOT convoluted but it's the need of people to complicate the most simple shit that is causing us so many issues as a society.

Look, I don't care if girls want to play football or boys want to learn needlecraft. I don't care.

However, we do know that men and women often self-select certain activities because they are naturally drawn to where their abilities lie. So football will forever be a male dominated sport because there just aren't many women who have that level of aggression or even if they do feel the need to use football as an outlet.

As a matter of fact, the whole statement I copied above about gender flies in the face of what we know about the human condition. It is politically correct nonsense claptrap that ignores basic human psychology and physiology.

There will always be an exception to the rule, that does not invalidate accurate generalizations about genders because of a handful of deviants from the norm.

Sounds like a bunch of liberal talk crap. If you were born a man then you are a man, you can call yourself a woman a dog or a Evinrude boat motor but it don't change a damn thing.

The reason many police departments will ask "Do you have a penis?" instead of "Are you male or female?" when arresting/booking/assigning a confinement space/etc. is to separate questions of gender from biology. That's generally an argument that's way too complicated to address quickly.

Like it or not, a significant percentage of the population considers their gender to be something different than the two we were taught about when we were kids.

The science behind those views is a rabbit hole I'd rather not dive into, so here's a brief look at the way this topic is beginning to be handled in the modern world: What Each of Facebook?s 51 New Gender Options Means - The Daily Beast

It's enough to make my head spin.

I'm a man. I know I am because I do what is needed to take care of my family in a responsible way.

I think that causes confusion for some.

Working at a liberal arts college, I'm immersed in this PC balderdashery.

I thought it was all just silly, until I found out about cis-male and cis-female. That's a natural born male who thinks they are a male. In other words, a male. But having it just be male is judgemental since all the other descriptions are multisyllable, so cis-male.

That's when I just gave up trying to figure it out, other than a way to get special treatment or benefits that others can't get based on some perceived difference that isn't a handicap.

I respectfully disagree with that statement. I'm not aware of any "studies" done or polls taken. My stance is a significant percentage of the population doesn't give a rat's ass about this issue.

I'm sick to death of all that crap too. But... I can only control my own thoughts and actions... not thoughts and actions of others. I can only influence others' thoughts and actions... not control them. I can avoid others as I see fit and changed the TV channel anytime I want. If I become frustrated by all the perverse nonsense I can always go blow apart some overripe pumpkins and watermelons.

I'm a dude. I like chicks. Just putting it out there for the record.
That is what I thought, but now I am confused. I was traveling and in a city I knew nothing about and dropped in a bar. This good looking big haired, long legs, short skirt gal sits down at the bar. I had noticed it seemed like the place had a lot of women in it. I ask to buy her a drink and she says no. She says I am not her type. I ask what type you go for? She says she like women and in fact likes to bury her head between their legs and that makes her a Lesbian...I asked her, does that make me a Lesbian too????????

A friend of mine had a girlfriend who had a couple of gay friends - these "guys" were cattier than her girl friends, leading my friend to explain to them that they were, in fact, men, and that he would beat their asses if they continued to run their mouths behind his back.

They did, and he kept his promise. Girlfriend dumped him. He found a better girlfriend.
