Considering the number of illegals, and the pounds of drugs at that specific checkpoint on 281, I'd say yes.

No there needs to be probable cause but per SCOTUS it's just a very low bar because of how small an intrusion it is and part of the PC is the location and direction of travel. In 2008 over 17000 illegals were arrested and something like 3500 drug seizures were attributed to checkpoints. Then you have the fact that the placement of the checkpoint has to modify the traffic of illegals and drugs from the border area which would create enforcement opportunities away from the checkpoints. As to there worth, they could be effective but it really depends on who and how is running things. Two football teams can run the same defense the success depends not on the defensive scheme but the couches and players.

I said before...I wouldn't be against these checkpoints IF we were doing everything we could at the border but were still being overrun.

Its just plain to see. I wish I felt safer and all patriotic when I saw federal law enforcement at a 100 mile inland border control checkpoint. I dont.
