Gun Masters on Ave K in Plano is not my cup of tea. I did not care for the staff and the "new" gun that I looked at was dry as a bone. No packing grease. It as a bit rusted too. I've never seen a Ruger SP101 in stainless rust. I owned A GP100 for 15 years with no signs of rust and I put 15,000 rounds down the barrel.

That's weird. I've been in there twice in the past week and the first time I watched them sell a new Sig that was covered in lube (I even commented to my wife who was with me). The second time (today) a guy bought a brand new M1A that was likewise well lubricated. I only saw one Ruger GP/SP in there today and it was in the consignment case. I've purchased several guns from Gun Master and never had this problem though. Or any problem, for that matter.

I did find the following reply to a post on Rugerfurom.net dated July 17th, 2012 though: "Once the rust is removed, please do yourself a favor and order some Eezox. It is hands down the best preventative coating I have ever found. I had rust on my GP100 and my Remington 870. Cleaned them up, coated them with Eezox and never had an issue. All my guns now get cleaned and coated with Eezox. I am such a huge believer in the product that if it doesn't work for you, I will buy it from you." (emphasis added).

And the original post was by a guy complaining about rust developing on his NIB, stainless P-90.

So I guess it's not unheard of, but my mother's SS SP101 and my Vaquero never had any problem. **shrug**

BTW, this info may be dated a bit, but:

CTD in Fort Worth was actually "CTD Outdoor Adventures" and not associated with CTD in McKinney. They have since (this year) changed their name to "Fort Worth Gun" and will be moving to a new location soon. My experiences there have been mixed. They were serious gougers, and still have some prices that I wouldn't consider in line. Thankfully, I'm further west, and Gibsons hardware in Weatherford 1.) never gouged, even at peak panic 2.) is friendly and cheaper on the whole. Just wished they kept more stock. Just sayin.

You sure? I just ordered a couple of Walther P22 mags off CTD's website and not only are they shipping from the Fort Worth location, said location still bears the CTD name.

Being new to the area, like that Gunmasters in Plano has Dillon Reloading product. I've only been a couple of times. Busy place but staff was helpful.

    Just to add my $0.02.

Bullet Trap Inc in Plano is a shooting range that sells guns, too. Their prices are OK but you will not get any great deals on new guns. Consignments and used guns are a different story. There are some great deals to be had if you are lucky.

The folks at Gun Gear to Go are quite nice and some of them moved over from the Bullet Trap. Yes, I was that much of a regular at BTI.

The armadillo Gun Range in Nevada, Tx has some guns. Used and consignment from what I gather. They will act as you FFL if you buy online from one of the broker sites.

I like the guys at Armadillo Guns. CHeap FFL transfers too. I shot at their pistol range recently, which was pretty nice. Rifle range is in progress.

The Bullet Trap has a sale every April, that is NOT to be missed. I have purchased several guns at that sale. While in general their prices are not great, that sale is pretty special. Guns, mags, etc all on sale. I have seen ARs there for under $700.

    Shoot Smart

I would suggest that you stop by at Shoot Smart, I-35W next exit south of 170 (Cabelas). They have a good selection of handguns for sale, new and used. They also have a good rental fleet and you can try out the ones you are interested in for only 1 rental charge. I have been going there for a few years and found their staff to be both helpful and knowledgeable.

Good info. Sale lasts the whole month? Do they restock during the sale, or is it a get rid of inventory type thing and it's best to show up early in the month for a better selection?

No, its a week or weekend thing. Not the whole month. Its a inventory clearance thing, pretty sure no restocking. Gotta get there early too.

When I find out about it, I will let you know.

I have bought rifles and receivers at Military Gun Supply over in Fort Worth before with good results. Lots of good milsurp stuff, always fun to browse and it's always something different when you go back. It's been awhile though, not sure if they're still there.

It's a chain of course but I've had good luck buying handguns at Academy.

Yes they're still there. Yes they still have plenty of milsurp hanging on the walls, including the typical Mosin Nagant for around $100. They're also big into slide fire stocks and usually have a good selection of rifle ammo on the shelf (except for the mythical 22lr of course)

I have to post a big thanks to Gunmasters in Plano. I had been looking for Bullseye powder for a year and a half. Someone on this or some board stated he gave them his number and they called him a week later when they got the stock. I finally called them about 3 months ago and had not heard from them since.

They called this Monday and stated my powder was in. Hooray! I drove the 35 miles to the store and they had what I needed set back for me. Stand up guys. They didn't know me, but they did take care of a customer. I'll drive the 35 miles just to do business with them. Thanks, Gunmasters.

Good guys up there. I do business with them when I can. They also have a good gunsmith on site.

I have bought guns from Bullettrap, Gunmasters, GG2G and others. GG2G is as I understand it owned by the previous owner of the Bullettrap. I like their staff. Bullettrap is still good but not as friendly as it used to be. Gunmasters is more old school (staff is curmudgeony but knowledgeable). They do carry Dillon reloading equipment and I have bought my press and a lot of accessories from them. They only seem to have one "expert" on the Dillon stuff but are very helpful. Targetmasters is also okay and Rays is probably the oldest store in DFW.

Last time I was at Ray's there was a blinged out Thompson Semi-auto with the violin case there and some very nice high end shotguns.

I'm a home based FFL in Lavon, If you give me a holler via email I can check pricing for you from my distributers. I stock some interesting items on my website greysmoketacticalfirearms.com. Email ben@greysmoketacticalfirearms.com and if you send me your handle on this website, i'll give you some sort of discount coupon for the item/s your interested in..

Also I'm thinking about stocking some ammo and I'd love to know what price points for 9mm 40cal 45acp 5.56/223 that you would be interested in both at the per box and case prices. (please be realistic) If I can find it available to me at a price to cover my time and effort. I'll stock some.

In McKinney there a couple other places as well:

Front Sight Firearms -- carries pistols and rifles (located off El Dorado next to Jack's Pub)

Tempesta Firearms -- has higher end classic firearms (the man cave is located in downtown square of McKinney)

Runner Runner Guns -- AR-15 parts, lowers, uppers, rifles only (across 75 from Cheaper than Dirt)

Targetmaster on Jupiter in Dallas did okay by me. And there was a small shop up in Addison/Carrollton off Beltline that had a decent selection and quite a few parts and accessories. Haven't been to either in a few years and don't know if either or both are still open But, I tried.

That place is 'The Gun Sight' and it is just south of Belt Line on Midway, located in the back of a trophy engraving store. Small supply of new and used guns, but he will order anything for you, good prices, and he always seems to have ammo.

Also, SPS at Belt Line and Josey, and Frisco Gun Club (but I would NOT trust the gunsmith at Frisco Gun Club to do ANYTHING in a timely manner, I'm talking MONTHS . . . )

Cheaper Than Dirt (aside from being fairly well hated 'round this board) is definitely not priced "at least average" - they consistently price around $200 or more higher than their competition. That dirt must be awful nice considering what they think "cheap" is.

Depends on the gun. Standard Glocks are the MAP price of $495.

I would recommend taking a look at Jackson's Armory in HP.
