On topic, where would I have to go if I had to go...

I suppose a person would have to make some lists of things they have to have and things they could live without.

Another interesting thing to me would be some of these tiny countries, I mean, if a hundred thousand freedom minded Americans moved there, you could take them over!

*If for some reason you had to move and couldn't do what most are suggesting above, of course.

Due to my faith and political views, I am expecting persecution. I am also looking forward to the increasing community and strength that develops during the persecution.

Agreed. There is an awful lot of us that do have faith and believe in Christian values. I would think we would be a force to large to box in.

If the other governments let you in.

Many countries actually enforce their immigration laws. It's crazy.

This discussion came up in the mccain-targeting-tea-party thread where AFG said he's going to move to Belize if the GOP doesn't straiten out.

I can understand both sides of the argument. I have cultivated property and life here; I don't want to leave... but there comes a point when it may be inevitable. I know the families that got out of Germany and Russia in the 1920s are very glad they left.

So that begs the question: When is it time to leave, where would you go, and why? I don't really see many viable alternatives.

I looked into Belize and they only allow .357 magnum and under so they strictly limit your guns there. No healthcare systems or hospitals to speak of. Its basically a shithole and without the tourism it would sink.

I think about that often, if people of like mind would fall back together, there would be strength there. So my detractors will say "but your type are always infighting"...the enemy of my enemy is my friend. We could work things out temporarily out of necessity then go back to fighting.

Sounds like a tribal Turdistan. If there is only cohesion and cooperation when there is a "greater enemy" to fight, then savvy tribal leaders will manufacture those enemies and use that as an excuse to exploit their people.

Dan, you read any about this weirdo homesteading on the open international waters movement?

I heard some guest on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast talking about it.

Waterworld, in a good way and better than the movie.

Are they actually being successful? I've heard people talk about it before, but it just seems like musings or thought experiments to me. If I knew a thing about being on a ship, which I don't, I think it could be quite the adventure to join a confederation of free captains

^This was sorta my line of thinking here. You'd have to start the process of calling it quits wayy earlier than probably anyone here is comfortable with. Then, if you wait too long, and then decide you really really want out, you might still have to fight to get out. Further on that scenario, your only options are by land via Mexico or a looong way up to Canada. Or swim with the fishes?

This^^^^^^^^^^You aren't going to move anywhere permanently on a VISA and getting dual Citizenship is not an easy thing (or cheap) to do either. Would you really give up your American Citizenship? Currently reading the book "Emergency" by Neil Strauss about this very scenario. I'm about 85% through it, but from what I have read so far, I will not (or most middle class Americans) have the resources to leave the U.S. for something better (if that place even exists) on a permanent basis.

It's an eye opener, for sure.....

Never leaving. I'll die in a new revolution before it gets so bad I have to leave.

We are armed to protect our families. If we end up protecting our families from our government it happens. AMERICA isnt a government it's a people.

Thank you Salty. Couldn't agree more.

Another perspective is, let's say you do go abroad to escape. How are you going to be looked upon in your new country. How will your new neighbours treat you? With respect? Don't think so. You'll be that new guy with the reputation of a runner because you didn't stand and fight. They'll know.

    Exactly.

How are your neighbors? Family? Friends? Are they worth fighting for? Would they fight for you?

If it gets bad where you think you need to move, maybe you're in the wrong neighborhood. Here in Texas, we don't stand for bullshit.
