So, should we agree to restrict the thread to considerations that only those who have an upper-middle-class or lower income would need to heed?
That is a fair point. The NFA tax was supposed to bar all but affluent people from owning such weapons. They just haven't changed the tax amount in all these years. I'm not sure how many people on here can afford to have private security and buy a "license" for everything they want. People that would be leaving would have something to lose, but not enough money to protect it.

Gun and self defense rights are very important, but I would focus more on property rights and economic freedom. Any good candidates in that area?

Im not believing what I'm reading on here! Are we gonna give up this easy?
Just let the no-goods that dont work, and just TAKE from all of us, just turn it
over to em, huh? Like I said, I'm not believing I'm seeing this on a gun forum,
    of all places! Damn!
So Ayn Rand's, Nicola Tesla's, and Albert Einstein's families should have stayed put? If the government is seizing people's property and livelihoods, and loading the people that speak out into traincars, you would rather make your children orphans by martyring yourself than make a new life somewhere else?

I very deeply understand the desire to fight, but there are other factors to consider. I can see through to the other side and that makes me want to stay and fight, but it would probably behoove many to flee.

This thread is about the leaving; not the staying.

The idea of fighting is a bloody and cruel one. Your family would most likely end up in prison while you are away fighting. If not, your children hungry and may or may not have a home to live in.
Lots of confederate soldier's homes were destroyed while they were out fighting.

    The Finns love their guns.
If I had no other choice but to live in a "socialist utopia" I'd pick a Scandinavian country. I'm hoping there are other choices.

You sure its not because the ref picked up the flag?
    That too

I'm not sure why so many are incapable of having this conversation.

This is like "you understood" in the English language.

I don't think anyone here is planning on running off to some African nation we have never heard of Obama doesn't get impeached.

As far as all the false bravado goes...people either don't know or are choosing to forget the history of Texas and the United States.

    Unreal.

If that's the only stumbling block, there are several good choices.

The Czechs love their guns, except for their weird attitude toward bullet configurations. No hollow points, no soft points, anywhere, for any reason. That "Guard Dog" ammo (the expanding FMJ stuff) was incredibly popular there for a long time but now they've changed the law and any expanding handgun ammo is prohibited.

    The Finns love their guns.

If you've got the money to live in San Marino, then you probably already know about San Marino. :)

Cool evenings in Cyprus are often punctuated by the sound of someone a couple of valleys away playing with their M2 Browning, even though essentially all firearms are technically illegal on the island. Yet anyone who wants them has them.

The list could get pretty long, depending on what guns you want to own and how willing you are to obey the prevailing interpretation of local law and risk someone enforcing the letter of that law. You would, after all, be an outsider and, in many places, quite vulnerable if someone wanted to stomp you with the law.
We have looked hard in the Adriatic sea area and its certainly on our radar. I think if our political climate does not radically change for the better or if Texas goes Blue, I think we would leave at that time and make a move. My wife has lived in Spain, France and Mexico and several other countries which are not on our list. Ideally we both would like to go to Mexico to the Baja, Spain or Italy. I like San Marino, out in the country the views are beautiful, but I think if we move it would most likely be to a coastal city at that stage of our lives. At that point and age I guess I could give up my guns....

I lived and worked in Australia, that is were I would go. It is like living in the US around the late 50-60's. No, illegals because it is surrounded by a ocean, two, when some one tried to get in with invalid passport or visa, they are out on the next plane. An no one in Australia cares were the plane is headed. Australia would be a good second to the US and hunkering down.

They have great economic freedom (for now), but are pretty poor on other freedoms. It's something to watch, tho as they could be on the cusp of something very promising. The problem I have with Hong Kong is that it's all big city. I like a small city with easy access to the countryside.

I never understood the mantra of having a "bug out bag." That is equal to "quitting" the fight.

If shit hits the fan, I am staying put and will put all my efforts into protecting what little I have and to resist at every opportunity, even if it kills me.

By staying put, you can form associations in extremis, and have at least some like minded citizens in your camp.

There's some frontier spirit left in Australia, but isn't it mostly a socialist nation? How is private property treated there? Is it easy to start a business? Is there a lot of licensing and regulations for businesses? How are the taxes?

Texas going blue may be a different thread as there are other good states like AK, UT, VT... but I do fear that if/when Texas goes blue, it won't be long before the federal government goes full communist.

The gun laws are truly atrocious though.

It would be hard for me to give up firearms ownership if there were other options.

Big our bags aren't necessarily about civil unrest. Lots of reasons someone might need to leave.

Thats about my favorite kind of living too. Mixed small urban and rural.

I'm not going to just forget those who came before us. We have to fight, we must fight. We cannot just give up and walk away. Too much sacrifice has given us this place.

May I remind, there were 183 men at the Alamo that knew they weren't walking out.

There is certainly a time to make your stand and I'm sure we all respect that.

The tricky part is decided, where is your Rubicon and when will you cross it?

I'll know my Rubicon when the time comes. I suspect many will.

That's one of the reasons why I criticize the "I just want to be left alone" crowd. You aren't going to be left alone. If you believe in anything other than what the socialists want you to believe, you are going to be put into a corner.

Due to my faith and political views, I am expecting persecution. I am also looking forward to the increasing community and strength that develops during the persecution.

I haven't found anywhere in the world better to go to. Trade one socialism for another? No, there's worse things than dying.

Back's in a corner. Nothing left but to fight if this last light is extinguished.
