Texas gun shows are pretty horrible IMO. Why go through the hassle of a crowd of fudds, pay $15 to park, $15 to get in, walk through tables of beef jerky and cheap chinese shit, and see a bunch of stuff I could buy online for 20+% cheaper online?

The great era of gun shows died a long time ago. Now it's nothing but gunbroker left overs.

The problem is these guys don't realize that the smart buyer will go to the internet and avoid the tax on the sale. I wanted one of those Vickers Glock 17 pistols and I found a good sale price at the latest dallas arms show. Then when he calculated tax is was $75 bucks more. So I noped out of that one and went home and bought one for the same price shipped.

You were gonna spend nearly $900 on a Glock?

If you have to ask you don't understand or don't want to understand. There's a croud of disbelievers here, including yourself. A far as 20% cheaper, that's BS for some items. For example, at the SA Saxet show, a vendor had the Ruger SR1911 for less than $600. Even after adding sales tax, I consider that a wash to the best internet pricing including shipping and FFL. Some people, including myself, want to look at and feel the guns they purchase. Also, good luck finding well described used guns on gunbroker or the internet.

Opinions are like ah.. well you get the jist.

What is the good one to go to in Dallas? i heard there are 5011 of them. Our Austin shows are now nearly non-existent.

I couldn't tell you. And that's the problem. There are so many held every weekend in DFW that they all suck.

I'm going to do the market hall show this weekend then I'm done with the metroplex for a while. I'm hearing that Wichita Falls, Abilene, Tyler and Longview are doing well.

I just get tired of spending my weekends educating the unwashed masses only to later see them walk out with bags of absolute crap trying to not make eye contact with me.

It's impossible to compete when you're surrounded by a sea of guys who will say anything to get a sale knowing the probability of them ever seeing the customer again is nil.

I just don't work that way.

ps i agree with the OP's post about the mesquite rodeo show. the one time (one time) I did the mesquite rodeo show with premier, that was my last time. great promoters, mediocre results. Never heard of that promoter (tier 1 ?) who ran last week's show before, so not surprised in the mediocre results. The promoter has a lot to do with drawing the right crowds and right vendors. Some promoters limit the trinket vendors, for example. Some promoters (names will remain nameless) ban honest vendors from shows because the honest vendors refuse to sell their reasonably priced products to other neckbeard vendors who buy then sell the marked products up 50% :) Don't ask me how I know this.

It still blows my mind how one vendor can sell a gun (or box of ammo or whatever) for a reasonable price and another, at the same show tries to sell it for 50% more. Do buyers really buy the first item they see? I usually walk around 2-3 times to check and compare prices.

I remember the last Cedar Park show I went to, they had M92 AK pistols for $500-$1200.

yes. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the "doh" from the customer who just paid a lot more % for the same item. The customer needs to walk and take notes and ask questions.

Also, as I allured to, suck ass vendors try to buy honest vendor inventory and flip it. Honest vendors tell suck ass vendors to **** off. Sometimes that don't work as sometimes honest vendors get kicked out of shows for trying to be honest vendors. Again, names remain nameless.

yes setup mostly. i'm a regular guy, I sell to regular guys. I can't judge people and their intentions easily. I was selling to another vendor, who I thought was a regular dude...who liked to reload. Once I figured out his game, I said "no sale". That got me kicked out of a certain nameless promoter here in central texas north of austin. I started covering up my shit during the morning setup after that crapola in anticipation of neckbeards. I've pissed off several neckbeards so far by saying "it's for the customers only at that price, not you to resell"

Same experience here. Regular guy there to sell to regular guys.

I typically have a "show special", something I'm selling at cost or even at a slight loss to help bring people to my tables. I learned very quickly to tell the other vendors to f'k off because they will try every trick in the book to cherry pick these "show specials" early and resell them.

The stories I could tell about the things I've heard other vendors say to get the sale would turn your stomach and of course one quick way to get banned is to interrupt a sales pitch by calling bullshit.

I like to believe that we live in a world where the good guy always wins because he has the power of right on his side but sadly I must admit that is not reality in most cases.

Mr TxArGuy, Trust me, we win not in numbers, but in truth and good faith and good word of mouth (reputation). I think I can say this for a fact based on the reputations you and I have both tried to deliver and repeat !!!!!!!!!

    Agreed. And we will continue.

    We have to.

The industry is under daily attack from all sides. It's just been a real eye opener to witness first hand and up close how badly it is feasting on itself from the inside.

'tis always been this way. its up to you (and me) to discern right from wrong and make judgement calls. 'tis up to folks like you and me to call BS when we see it. Trust me, I've seen it..I'm there for my customer, my client... not at all there for the the neck beards. If I go out this way, I'm fine with that.
