Hey Vaq, what's with the Jihad smiley face?

Over in isis land, it represents a follower of the Nazarene (Christ).
They're marking homes with it so the radicals know who to kill.

I adopted it so they won't mistake who I am. "Bring it!"

Interesting. Looks like "Nun", pronounced "noonu." It's the 14th letter in the Semitic alhpabet and is the first letter of the word "Nasara", which is what Muslims have called Christians since they first invaded the Christian world in the 7th Century. Now ISIS uses the symbol to mark homes for genocide and Christian owned property for expropriation.

Wear it proudly, Vaq and watch your six.

Guys - he may be from California, but he DID reach out on a gun board. Hopefully he's salvageable.
The defining question is who did he vote for for president.
Then again - maybe better not chance it...

i did warn wifey that we'd get some ribbing when we posted, but I am impressed with the details. The cobra thing had me until they said they prefer the cars of new arrivals. :)

I want to move out of CA because it's getting old having to review the new gun laws every January to be sure i haven't become a felon.

For the record, I have never voted for a Democrat. I'd like to become a Texan, and NOT bring any of California's foolishness with me. It amazes me to read about folks who move out there and want to goof things up to California-ize Texas.

All Texans are horse riding gun shooting maniacs. /QUOTE]

Awesome, I think I'll acclimatize pretty quickly. I'm looking forward to being able to buy suppressors and SBRs once I get there. :)

Can't even get a LTC in CA, got my permits from 3 other states with no problem.

Good to know, and let me be one of the first to welcome you. But the stuff about the traffic, cost of living, taxes and liberal politics in Austin is all true.

I was hoping to live in Leander, and commute to downtown each day...but my wife is pushing to buy closer to the job. Hopefully I can convince her that the higher taxes aren't worth it.

Here I leave the house at 6:30 to beat the traffic, will that help out, or does it jam up pretty early?

If you live in Leander you would be close to Larue Tactical.

I can't speak to leaving Leander at 6:30, but I do know the traffic on MoPac and on 360 is already pretty thick by then. I am retired and refuse to make appointments for anything except between 10 and 2.

In that case, come on down! :-)

My wife and I used to live in Cedar Park, while I worked in Dripping Springs, which is Southwest of Downtown and she was finishing at UT, which is just North of downtown.

My commute started at 7am, to make it to my office by 9am. Then, I'd leave my office at 5pm and make it home by about 6:30pm. It sucked.

Now that was 5 years ago, so it's MUCH worse now.

Where exactly is this job offer at? I could give you a better idea of commute times to and from Leander.

A commute from Leander to downtown Austin is going to be brutal no matter what time you do it. While our public transportation system here is generally a cluster f, there is a commuter train that actually serves that route reasonably well, from what I understand. But I think it costs like $7 per trip, one way, which actually might be better than fighting the traffic.

Seriously, that commute is hideous. I would look into something closer in if you're going to do this.
