Good to know, and let me be one of the first to welcome you. But the stuff about the traffic, cost of living, taxes and liberal politics in Austin is all true.
Yes.

I was hoping to live in Leander, and commute to downtown each day...but my wife is pushing to buy closer to the job. Hopefully I can convince her that the higher taxes aren't worth it.
Here I leave the house at 6:30 to beat the traffic, will that help out, or does it jam up pretty early?
Make the move, I did 5 yrs ago, never looked back. Have only been back to Ca. to bury an old friend and for my wife to see her mother before she passed. Get your vehicles registered asap to get rid of the Ca. plate and get your DL just after that, then you can start working on your CHL. Despite the ribbing you got here most everyone one I have met here are truly good people, warm and friendly as long as you don't start with "we did it this way in Ca." to compare with things here. I moved to be free from that crap, after you've been here awhile you will wonder why you waited so long to move. Feel free to P M me, I would be happy to share my experienance with you.
Leander is good, as is Cedar Park, we're getting full here in Round Rock and the prices are going up. IMO you should rent for the first year, although rents are high, to get a feel for the area. There is a lot of new construction going on, both single family developements and huge apartment complexes. The vacancy rate favors the landlords so don't expect a lot of incentives from them..WELCOME to FREE AMERICA>
Leander is the only place with a train, so it's not bad. Beats driving by a mile. (See what I did there?)
I think ya scared the op... he gone...
Were they the only 2 on it?The wife and daughter took the train down for a convention. They really liked it.

It was the weekend so it was not packed. I saw about eight people when I picked them up once. Were they the only 2 on it?

You need to look at the cities of Kyle and Buda. Traffic still sucks, but you have more options. I can be downtown in 15 minutes from the far south end of Austin Some times it takes 45, but... I would never live north!
Travel from Leander to Arboretum area daily at 8-ish. Easy commute compared to L.A. or San Francisco or even Baton Rouge for that matter.
The cobra thing is real. Google loose cobras in Texasi did warn wifey that we'd get some ribbing when we posted, but I am impressed with the details. The cobra thing had me until they said they prefer the cars of new arrivals.
I want to move out of CA because it's getting old having to review the new gun laws every January to be sure i haven't become a felon.
For the record, I have never voted for a Democrat. I'd like to become a Texan, and NOT bring any of California's foolishness with me. It amazes me to read about folks who move out there and want to goof things up to California-ize Texas.

You took the ribbing well.
