If someone else completes it for you, they have manufactured the forearm and it can't be transferred, ever.

If you do it yourself, it's yours forever. No legal way of transferring at this time.

Have you seen that personal CNC machine that will finish the 80% lower? That thing is very cool!

Go to the atlantic firearms website and get the PTR91 GI-R that they have on sale for 854.

Shoot it first to see what you need. Likely nothing. If you still want a 'trigger job', take a look at bill springfield. Also, I would wait a bit as PTR is going to add the paddle mag release at the factory now, which is about the only upgrade you actually need or want.

I have a PTR going on 2 years now. Great rifle. Hideous trigger. Removed the very nice wooden furniture on her and replaced with the military furniture/wide fore end with factory bipod. Mine will eat whatever 308 ammo you feed it. With that hideous trigger I can stay under 2 inches at 100 yards with open sights.

What's the difference between the "R" GI model and the regular GI? I have found one for $500 with only 60 rounds through it and 2 mags. There is no rail but I could get one welded on.

"R" already has the rail welded on as the regular GI does not. $500.00? You had better jump on that deal!

'R' model already has the rail. If you find a GI for $500, that's a steal!
The shell deflectors lighten felt recoil, and stop the brass from self-destructing.

Well getting a rail welded on correctly will not be easy or cheap, by the time you do that you could put on a B&T mount yourself and not have to wait for a gunsmith and would probably come out cheaper. If you are hunting during the day, the HK style iron sights are some of the best irons you can get, but if you are hunting at night you'll need an illuminated reticle scope. The Bill Springfield trigger job at www.triggerwork.net is a must and it's not expensive. RTG parts has the PWS muzzlebrake which is the best you can get for the HK's and PTR's but you can do that yourself later when you can, but don't wait on the trigger. The pic shows the B&T mount but if you zoom in you will see this is a prototype they never produced, it has three screws on each side instead of two. That is a Karsten adjustable cheek piece and the stock has a 1-3/8" KickEeeze pad on it with a PSG-1 buffer, it's fun to shoot but it was not cheap to set up. It has a different optic now a Burris Six X 2-12x with the E-1 illuminated reticle. PTR-91 and pig.jpg

I really don't get the obsession with Bill Springfield trigger work, some professionals I trust have stated they don't trust his work, to the point that many outright call it unsafe. I'll put it this way: I grew up 'in the business' and have bought, sold, and traded countless guns, and I won't own it if I know he's worked on it.
I'll add that my PTR's trigger is fine, and every HK/PTR I've ever dealt with had good triggers. They're battle rifles, they're not supposed to have 3-lb single-stage triggers!

PTR makes them with the bull barrel and welded on rail, so if you really want a PTR like that you should just buy that model. It's not really a cost effective rifle to modify. I don't really think you want the bull barrel, tho as it's already a heavy rifle. The bolt on rail should work just fine for you. It does for mine at least. The trigger does suck on it; just like a real HK!

Well the obsession with Bill Springfield's trigger is he is the ONLY person to do HK style triggers that work. The best gunsmith in Texas tried 4-trigger packs for his JLD - (prior to PTR) and all 4 would not reset and went full auto and he immediately destroyed them. And he has done probably 70+ trigger jobs for me on everything under the sun. Bill Springfield has done 8-HK trigger packs for me personally and two Belgium Browning B.A.R.'s and all have been flawless.

Oh, I forgot Bill also did two Winchester Model 100 semi-auto 308's too, and they were flawless.
