Few questions on my upcoming move to TX

When i move, my dad is gifting me a few handguns. In CA, we just file an intrafamilial form and we're done.

What is different for CA -> TX? Does it require FFL because it's interstate? Would it be easier to file the form before I move, then just bring with?

Once they are yours, you can bring them. There is no registration in Texas.

This. NOTHING required by Texas when you move and no forms to fill out. If you have any NFA items, make sure and file those forms with ATF and get the approvals before you move them (SBR, suppressor, etc.).

    Just come on with them
Stop at the border and swear allegiance to the south and leave any liberal voting tendencies behind

I've never heard of any internal family form to transfer guns from one family member to another

    Stolen from elsewhere:

When you get to Texas, your Texas DL is just a temporary visa. You're not a Texas citizen until you get your Texas CHL. :)

Welcome to Texas (in advance) Grew up in southern Cali. Spent most summers in deep east Texas working for my Grandpa. In my 12th year I found a Webly revolver in Grandpa's attic. He said if worked hard he might give it to me. I promptly forgot about it. When I got off the Greyhound back in the valley and unpacked, there in my bag was the Webly.
The old ways are usually the best. Texas is an "old way" when it comes to many freedoms. Not perfect but no closer is needed.
If you are not a California closet Marxist you will be happy here.

    Helotes!
Not only bring 'em, but when you get here you can buy more without asking the state for permission! No Dealer’s Record of Sale (DROS) process, no 10-day waiting period, no Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) required. None of the bullshit you're used to.

Once you get here, take a deep breath and feel the freedom! It's the way God and our Founding Fathers intended it to be.

    Welcome to Texas!

    Cheers! M2

haha thanks guys. Vastly different process, where in CA we have to build a clock and then forfeit 90% of our gross income.

Not only bring. Promptly go by regular capacity magazines and a non-restricted rifle of your choosing.

Well said. Please follow this advice.

Good point. You're used to CA compliant stuff. Texas compliant stuff is what you would call, "all of the above", so get ready for a little culture shock when you visit the local gun store.

I still have a shit ton of USGI, Rommy, and even some unopened comm bloc tanker pre-bans from pre-2000. all my magpuls are 10/30 but towards mid-jan you'll see a pile of mag blocks at the AZ border. And some 15 round P220 single stacks

yeah, it's going to be nice to not have to remember which AR i can stuff my 30 round mag in without fearing a felony. Pile of bullet buttons and grip wraps next to the mag blocks i mentioned above
If your S/O is a raving liberal, please leave them in California.

    rman,

Take a plane, take a train, take a car/truck or even a mule but get the Hell outta "the land of fruits & nuts" SOONEST. - As you touch Texas soil, you might get down & kiss The Land of FREEDOM.
(We ain't perfect by any means but a 1,000X better than Kalifornication & Hollyweird.)

When I got home to Texas, I got off the plane at SAT & caught a taxi to north San Antonio. - On the way to Emerald Island, we passed a car dealership that flies a HUGE Texas flag & I wanted to weep with relief to be HOME.

    just my OPINION, satx

    I'm with you satx.

I actually started working in TX on 10/05, flying to CA for the weekends. So I've spent more time in TX in the past 7 weeks than in San Diego.

I fell in love with TX in January, my first work trip out there.
