Kind of surprised at most of the responses regarding Academy. Academy, a southern chain, apparently catered to the whims and political pressure of anti-gun lefties. They were the worst of the worst. Walmart decided to remove ARs altogether. So be it. To remove the most popular selling item at least shows your conviction to the cause (even if we disagree) and it even hurt their sales to do so. But Academy tried to have their cake and eat it too. They took the guns down because they're "bad" and some tree huggers probably protested them. But they'd secretly sell them to you behind closed doors as if it was some contraband.

You (we) gun advocates should vote with our dollars. Don't buy the ARs from them even if they put them back out. They are the worst kind of gun store.

    We have a winner!

While I agree in general, the guns are back on the shelves in many locations. I will give them the benefit of the doubt on this one as I don't know who made the decision to pull them or put them back out. If they do something like that again they are dead to me.

Maybe it was dollars, maybe it was a corporate decision based on customer complaints, maybe it was due to their stores relating stories back to them. I don't know but we all have temporary lapses in judgement.

I have said I would never go back but I will allow them one strike.

    Super Opinion,

Most of your opinions I agree with.

As for some here who insist we all boycott Academy, nah, I like Academy, even if they recently stumbled.

I remember when many said to boycott Smith & Wesson. I don't go along with anyone's bandwagon. If I want to buy at Academy or buy a S&W gun, I will.

Some gun guys remind me of religious zealots.

I boycotted Exxon back after the Valdez incident (like it really hurt them) because of the coverup and negligence. For 10 years I didn't buy their product. One day, I was driving in NW Texas (Amarillo area, as I recall). Typical college aged person I didn't put gas in my car until it started to sputter. Well, I'm driving on whatever country road I was on and I realize that the needle is on the red E line. 6 miles later I see a gas station. An Exxon. This was a test of my conviction. I was doing the "hold at 55 and take your foot off the gas downhill and SLOWLY accelerate back up to speed" technique. Well, I decided to pass Exxon. Now I'm 10 miles past Exxon and the needle is BELOW the red line. Do I turn back for a known 10 miles or do I get another 10 miles away and then run out. Oh, and now it's about an hour until dusk. Well, I press on. 3 miles later, I saw a (non-Exxon) gas station. WHEW! Stuck to my principles though. As for buying S&Ws, or any other gun, at least check other stores first. Academy does NOT usually have the best prices. 1 in 20, maybe. But often people just assume they have the best prices and they don't. BTW, Kroger Cokes are almost always on sale and are cheaper than Sams. Another example of an assumption (Sams is always cheaper) that is inaccurate. Yes, we went grocery shopping today and I had this convo with the Mrs.

I think it would be almost impossible not to buy a product made with some kind of Exxon's product in it over a 10 year period. They do not just produce gasoline

Was in Academy Sat. Overheard the counter guy say "There was a rumor going around that we no longer sold AR's"
    I kept my mouth shut.

Well, I did eat some baby seal in that period that had kind of an oily aftertaste, so you're probably right. But if I did consume any of their products, I did it unknowingly.

I think more people should stand on principles and vote with their dollars. If Quentin Tarrentino is bashing cops and says they should be shot, and you disagree with that, maybe don't go see one of his movies. I'm a Dolphins fan (not that they make money on me), but after seeing their four players disrespect the national anthem, I'm glad they lost. I believe everyone should be entitled to their opinion, but they should also live with the consequences. If Target wants to promote transgender bathrooms and enough people want to protest it with not shopping there (as they did), then that's how change happens. Target wouldn't give a crap about 10 angry letters...but $40mm drop in profits (or whatever) kinda sends a message.

If at the end of the day someone asks you, "What do you stand for" and the only thing that comes to mind is "to pee", then maybe you're just that guy that has no convictions. Not saying you're right or wrong for it, but that's just not me.

(and by "you" I mean the collective, generic "you", not "Shady" per se)

I guess I should look into who owns academy and all the spider web effects from that and never go to any place that has a tie to the corporate office.
But they have 22lr on sale and I need it now.

That's how I feel about it. If you are shunning someone because of a bad behavior, you're supposed to stop shunning them when they stop the bad behavior. If they start the bad behavior again, then it becomes a pattern and you have to cut them loose.

This is the 2nd time they've pulled them. So you're giving them 3 strikes then out?

Most large companies get away with and are forgiven of their stupid stunts because Americans have very short memories. It's how Bernie can do nothing in the Senate for 35 years and tell young people he is for change and new ideas and they think its new and refreshing. Its the college kid that admitted to the reporter that she had no idea what Socialism was, but stated one thing she knew. "It's not as bad as you think it is."

You are thinking of Dick's. Academy could not keep them in stock. I saw them on the shelf for about a day before the mad rush to neckbeard everything in stock happened. I would see them from time to time when I would go in after SH.

Damn near every Academy in Houston pulled them from the shelves after Sandy Hook, so it IS strike two for Dawico. What will he do now? LOL

Didnt Dick's quit selling them altogether after SH, not just hide them from plain sight?

Again, I think y'all are mistaken. They were most definitely on the shelf ( when they could get any to stock) in ultra liberal Austin immediately after and during the neckbeardpocalypse that followed Sandy Hook.

I really think they just flew off the shelves so fast that it appeared that they pulled them.

I can hardly recall what I had for supper last night, so I'll retract my statement and defer to your recollection. ;)

Liberals are accused (rightly) of constantly being "oh so offended" by this or that, but I see some gun guys getting "oh so offended" by their own this or that too..
