We do them for $25 for non-NFA items and $50 for NFA items. We probably receive an average of 2-3 transfers per day. The nice thing about using us (or any other actual storefront) is that we receive daily deliveries and are open six days per week. Before we had the FFL, I used a customer of ours who lives 1/2 mile from our store. It took me 4 days to get my gun from him (when it was convenient for him) after he received it, and UPS had to try to deliver twice because he wasn't home the first time. Good guy, and I understand that he was tired or his wife wasn't feeling well or whatever. But it also shed light on the difference where we now have a proper store front versus people with whom you have to schedule an appointment.

In case someone is not familiar with the process, we will email our FFL/SOT to the sender. They mail the item to us with your contact information on it and their FFL or information. Within an hour of us receiving the gun, it's logged in our system and you get a call or email. It's ready to pick up right then. No storage fees or hidden charges if you cannot get it right away. And of course we also carry other items you might need (cleaning kits, holsters, ammo, cases, reloading supplies, silencers). We'll even stay a little late for you. We don't turn the lock exactly at 6:00, especially if you're on your way but stuck in traffic.

Become a FFL dealer it cost $150.00 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Firearms_License

Everyone is charging $35.00 and they give you a hard time with the paper work too, they want you to buy the gun from them. But it's kinda hard to buy a gun from them if they don't have it in stock.

Yep I tried getting an FFL to get into suppressor and handgun sales but HOA said nope. $35 bucks is way too high. I go to 10-Ring and they only charge $20. Good folks too.

Any recommendations for somebody who handles transfers around Beaumont? My local go-to guy didn't renew his license and got out of the business.

UPDATE: So after calling around locally, I am still in shock. FORTY BUCKS for a transfer? Cheapest I could find was $35...
I know this is about 8 years too late, but for anyone else looking in the Beaumont area, High Ground Air Soft by the mall does transfers for LTC holders for $10. Not sure what they charge for non LTC holders.

My apologies if they've already been mentioned but Ellis County Firearms does transfers for $15. It's a home based FFL business around the northwestern side of Waxahachie near Ovilla, about 25-35 minutes south of Dallas.

In Huntsville Able Ammo and Guns charges $50, but the gun store, name unknown, next door to Harbor Freight is a freebe. Guess who I use for transfers and purchases whenever possible. Small store but good people.

I am new to the area and I need some help. need an FFL that can handle a FFL to FFL out of state sale. I’m aware that I could ship direct to his FFL but that was not presented as an option.

    I am located in Spring.

I just saw this, that's Charlie and Steve and their mom and dad. GOOD people! Charlie was a Marine (I don't hold that against him :) ) And Steve was a civilian contractor in Iraq who was actually ambushed and captured by hajjis... escaped several weeks later and made it to a US convoy. There are tons of news articles about him. Bottom line is, hajjis shouldn't **** with former bull riders!

You don't get gun folks better than these people!

A search on the web for FFL in your zip works wonders. Hell you can also add words like cheap to that search & it will work.

I might go pick their brain and ask about their business model. They're outside our area so I don't think they'd feel it's competition. But to pay an employee to receive inventory, do the 4473, keep it for 20 years, and have an hour long conversation about the gun you just transferred, and do all that for free?? The argument is "well, that just gets them in the store and then you can sell them something else." No you can't. The person who is buying a lot online and transferring stuff in is ONLY using you because the law requires it. I even had a customer tell me that. They bought online and direct shipped the case of ammo, the holster, the $3000 scope, the... I see it daily. Very rarely does a person who transfers something "need" anything else. So if the only thing they do for the customer is done for free, I'm not sure how they pay rent. MANY LGSs are going out of business for this very reason. 10% gross margin on guns. Hours of "free" work in person. It's just not sustainable anymore.

PSA makes $80 selling a gun with no communication with the customer. Drop ships from distributor.
Midway makes $70 selling the case of ammo with $6.99 shipping. No convo.
OpticsPlanet makes $300 selling the MAP priced scope with no sales tax. No convo.
LGS makes $0-$25 on transfer doing 20 minutes of receiving, paperwork, pick-up conversation, filing, etc., showing you how to break the gun down, listening to the story about how your dad used to... And then asking you if you know of a local range to go shoot your new gun when your case of ammo gets in.

It's a challenging business to be in right now. Be curious how they're making it. We're considering changing our business model to a "transfer-only/special-order only" model. But not if we have to be free to get the customer to use us. Have to think about that.
