That would be nice. I have every intention of doing agricultural things on my land anyway. Fruits and vegetables for us, chickens for eggs and meat, goats for milk and meat. Anything after that would be something I haven't done before.

That doesn't strike me as unreasonable. 45 acres outside of Dallas would be pretty nice. Lots of water it looked like for the critters.

All we have up here is taxes. Income tax, property tax tax tax tax. I live on 1.25 acres and pay 14k a year in property taxes. Plus a 5.1% tax.

I had a few reasons for Leaving Washington state, other than becoming less and less gun friendly. Even living an hour ferry ride across Puget Sound from Seattle and probably another hour from Microsoft didn't discourage the the Microsofties from buying up many areas in the Kitsap peninsula. Of course along with them came their politics.

It spreads like cancer. They ruin a place and then realize it's ruined and move. Rinse and repeat.
I have spent so much time at the state house arguing against them. It's a constant battle wherever you are it seems. It would be nice to be starting from a good point for a change vs being buried up to my armpits and trying to swat the dirt being shoveled at me away.

You went to far west. Here in Odessa they can't even spell liberal.

I am in the DFW area. Live next to the speedway and work next to the DFW airport. I hate the city but being in the automotive field this is where the money is. If you are stuck in the forklift business hit me up. I know a couple people in that line of work around the metro. I could at least get you a couple leads.

I would rather be a little further out (Decatur area) but the hour to hour and a half commute would kill the wife. I have to cut in time for the wife and kids. That's what it's about anyhow.

Also, don't be offended when you get here and they call you a Yankee. That's normal. I have been here 6 years now and still get it. I try and validate it by noting that I was born south of the Ohio river in Kentucky in disputed territory, held captive for 30 years (Indiana and minnesota) and finally escaped to Texas. The accent gives it away.... When I was 30 and my wife was pregnant with our first boy, she told me, "either I am moving to Texas or we are moving to Texas" it ended up being we moved to Texas.

Whatever your choice, The Republic of Texas is the place to be.

Congrats on getting the wife thinking a move to a better state based on your needs and likes is in the cards for your family. I started working the move out of California game plan on my wife and family two years ago and just now making it happen. It is bitter sweet to say the least. I wish you much success in your journeys to find the right fit for you. For the record I am a TX newb and have zero to contribute other than above.

Seems as though DFW has the best fit for me job wise, at least according to linked in. I started applying. My wife may be able to keep her job no matter where we end up which is a nice thought.

DFW is currently booming .. especially North Dallas and North Fort Worth. The entire Texas economy is in good shape and has been.

Almost said "Nice place to visit, but wouldn't want to live there", but I would mostly be lying. Except for the Stockyards in FW, I really don't care for it. Too many people, too much traffic.

Compared to Austin just about any traffic I encounter in Texas is a breeze.. I'd rather chop off a finger than drive in Austin traffic ANY TIME OF DAY!

I made the decision to go to Texas from Mass in 1980 and NEVER looked back. Currently living in a rural area 5 minutes from a small town. Well, actually in city limits on 1 acre. I am within 45 minutes of anything in Austin if you like cultural things like plays, etc. My town has three live music venues playing most every Friday and Saturday. Really love the freedom you have in Texas compared to Mass.
