I am suddenly missing one of the screws that attaches my FastFire III to my pistol's slide, Its a metric .5 x 39 and I can't find one anywhere! Where would you look? I contacted Burris and they said it's not theirs, it must have come with the mount, I contacted Century Arms and they said it must have come with the sight and they don't have one. WTF?

If you want to try to source locally, I have used Elliott's Hardware off Coit Rd. for several of these obscure / missing gun screw issues. The guys who work that hardware section are great. Just my experience they have any screw I have ever needed on these deals.

Looks like Amazon will sell you a 0.5mm x39 screw depending on the head shape or an assortment.

I have an HK940 that takes the 05 claw scope mount. I stripped the Heads on the mount but found replacement Allen key head bolts at Lowes of all places. I had to chuck up the bolt in a drill and hand turn then down the heads so they fit in the scope rings but they look like a perfect match.

If I have a hard time finding an odd screw or bolt I go to a local nut and bolt shop. Often they give it to me free.

Local Ace Hardware has a surprisingly large assortment of small screws.
