President Trump is set to sign the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act, which contains an amendment that allows U.S. citizens to acquire military surplus 1911 pistols.

The sales will occur under the auspices of the Civilian Marksmanship Program

According to the International Business Times, it currently costs the U.S. military approximately $2 a day to store one pistol, and there are an estimated 100,000 1911s that are being stored.

    Charlie Primero,

While I fully support lifting the federal restrictions on selling US military small arms to civilians, I seriously wonder how many of the 100,000 1911 pistols are suitable/safe for use.
(When I was last a Provost Marshal for an Army post in VA in 2004, EVERY 1911 pistol that we sent in for DS/GS repair was SCRAPPED as "uneconomical" to repair/return for duty use by our MPs.)
Because M9/M11 pistols were "back-ordered" and/or issued to "higher priority CS MP organizations", I ended up issuing Colt's & S&W .38SPL revolvers to DoD guards/police, to our NCOs and to our single CWO (Our "admin whizz") & to myself..

    Good to know.

I'm only familiar with the Vietnam/Korea/WW2 military surplus camping stuff I bought when I was a kid. Most of that stuff was good because it was actual "surplus", left-over, obsolete gear.

If you're looking for a shooter, buy elsewhere. These are more likely for collectors. One would look great in a shadow box for your favorite vet....

They will probably sell for around $1000.00 apiece, with all-matched collector grade pistols being sold at auction (if there are any). Most guns will be refinished mixmasters with more than one rebuild mark. Almost every 1911 in the system has been through an arsenal rebuild and inspection.
I will buy one, because I have a ton of 1911 parts around. A Colt frame with other contractor parts is fine. I'll build myself a nice all-Colt shooter with a post-war GI Colt hard slide and a GI hard-chrome barrel. Great shooter. And it won't be a Kimber or Springfield.

So, is this the third thread started about these going for sale, or is this something different?
I don't know. I didn't bother to count since I don't sit on this site all day. Not to mention the search function sucks using my phone. You are welcome to sit here and redirect traffic to said threads if you wish.

Time to renew my CMP paperwork. Hopefully those Korean M1's make there way home too.

Roger that; it looks like the Korean M1s (and M1 carbines) will make it here, now that this is happening. It was an Obama exec order that stopped the M1s from being imported after approval, so it would appear that Trump would override that. At least we can hope. CMP M1s are starting to dry up.

I was told by the CPM that first you had to be a member and pass the CPM training to qualify to purchase the 1911

I Sent inquiry to NRA asking why they were not looking after their members in purchasing these guns.
Never received a response, why are they doing nothing in this situation. Maybe we belong to the wrong
