I don't mind jury duty since I've been retired.
Same here but I don't think I'll be called again. I once took an exemption for being a care-giver to someone disabled; I've not gotten a notice since. I used to get them quite often.

I've gone through voir dire twice, picked once. The one time I was picked, when the time came for final selection the judge asked if anyone remaining had any scheduling conflicts that may interfere with the trial. I raised my hand, was called to the bench, where I informed them my wife was scheduled for delivery of our son on Thursday. The judge was sympathetic and dismissed me, saying he was pretty confident the trial would be a quick one but he didn't want to rob a father of being there for the birth.

I've yet to serve on a jury, but I would do it in a heartbeat. Not only do I think it would be interesting, I know I'll do my best to fill the role to the best of my abilities.

OP, you can try this. This discussion came up one time with a preacher participating in a discussion group.
Take a big, black-bound, study Bible with you to read while you wait. It helps if it has very large, and very bright (so as to attract attention), gold embossed title, “Holy Bible”.
And at every opportunity, whether it’s talking with other perspective jurors or answering lawyer questions, be vocal about your belief in “forgiveness”, turn the other cheek, second chances, redemption, etc. etc.
Almost magically......no jury duty for you!

I haven't served on a jury, although I have been called upon a few times. I think the line "Let the punishment fit the crime" may be a deterrent, but that's what I believe, so they can take it however they like.

Jury summons received for next week, Tuesday.

Part of me wants to do my civic duty on a jury.

Another part of me fears the unspeakable horror of being on a jury for two weeks to render a judgement on a prick vs. a bitch physicians divorcing one another. A friend lived, miserably, through such an experience.

    I need advice.
How do I get the attorney's to say "No freaking way" to having me on a jury???

I considered an AR-15 t-shirt and tin foil hat but, these days, that would get me an unwelcome home visit from a governmental agency.
    :)

IME experience just answer the questions honestly and you will be excused. Worked for me twice.

Wear a White Live Matter Shirt And tell them during Voir Dire that you hope the accused is white because you feel confident you can be non biased.

I'm currently reading a book which covers in deprh what it can be to have a trial in which your "peers" are not involved, and would venture to say you are mistaken.

You're being judged by peers who are subject to the same laws and courts as yiurself, which is a priceless safeguard in an imperfect system.

Your right, you reading a book trumps my years of being in, and around the Courthouse.

I've only been called up twice. The first time I showed up and never got picked.

The second time was for a Federal trial that was expected to take 6-9 months. Since I was working for the USPS at the time it would have been like a vacation at the time. About two weeks before the date I was informed they had settled out of court and I would not be needed.

My wife has been called up at least a dozen times. We've been here in Texas four years and she's been called up twice so far. But since she has to take care of me she hasn't had to serve. If I get called up I'd love to serve, but I can't sit in one of those chairs for more than about 10-15 minutes without having to get up and walk around.

If you’ve been summoned more than once in a twenty-four month period, just identity that on the back of the jury summons card and you’ll be excused.

I always kept track of the last time I was called, so I could cite that date (and court jurisdiction) and be excused.

I no longer get called; I suspect due to my age. And I’m good with that.

There are different courts, each has a different length of time. Municipal court is 6 months, at least that's what they told me last November.

Ask the judge to explain the concept of "jury nullification."

Although I was dismissed once by answering the "occupation" question as "International Merchant of Death." The judge asked me to explain, I talked about importing and exporting various firearms and firearms accessories, and I didn't even get to ask a follow-up about jury nullification (that time).

It’s probably good you didn’t get to ask your followup question. Generally speaking, judges aren’t known for their sense of humor.... he might have found you in contempt.
