Open carried all the time when I lived in PA for a year(big part of the 2A world up there). Havent done so in Texas yet. I seen a few people at Cabelas doing so. Also met a person to sell a gun and he was OCing a desert eagle. Thats about it

    A Desert Eagle!

Nice that OC is legal but I still don’t see the point. Just makes you a target for bad guys who want a free gun.

The element of surprise and anonymity is powerful.

Always carry my friends and don’t show your gear

OK, but that was not the discussion topic here. Please discuss that elsewhere.

    "Activism" ?

No, I am no "activist", I hope and pray, but I am a dedicated supporter of our Constitution(s), and, of our wonderful culture.

Please tell me of YOUR experiences with "Open Carry" in Texas since it has been "legal" again.

I have wanted to "Open Carry" in Texas, but I don't wish to create legal problems for myself, or for anyone else.

I have held a Texas "CHL", or "CWP", or whatever it is now known as, for many years, and hold a lifetime permit from my native State. I am a 74 year-old retired UT Faculty Physician.

I am interested in YOUR experiences, bad, good, or otherwise; but not in stories of others' experiences.

Please tell me, and us all, what has happened when YOU "open carried" in Texas.

    Thank you,

    leVieux
I retired from the US Army in 2012, after 34 years in uniform. In 2013, my wife and I got our CHLs and our first pistols. She prefers to carry concealed, while I prefer to carry openly. From 2013 to 2016, I carried openly only on my own property. Since 1/1/16, I've carried openly as my default method. No hassles.

I've carried openly in AZ, CO, KS, MO, NM, OK, and, of course, Texas. No hassles, only a few mildly negative comments in conversation.

For the past year I have been carrying an S&W M&P M2.0, 9mm, 5inch, in a Safariland ALS retention holster. It is hard to not see, but most seem to overlook it.

I work in Austin, as did my wife before she retired. After 1/1/16, I carried openly every time I visited her at her state agency. I carry openly in my bank, on Texas Military Forces property, and anywhere else I can do so legally. I carry openly at my church, except in the sanctuary during worship.

A few months ago, my wife and I were having lunch at a popular eatery in the Terrytown district of Austin. We had only been seated a few minutes when two Austin police officers walked in and sat two tables away from us. A few minutes later, two Austin bicycle officers came in and sat down at a table next to us. My holstered pistol was, of course, in plain view. On our way out, we stop and talked briefly with the bicycle officers, one of whom was carrying an S&W M&P M2.0. Nice chat. No hassles.

As with most things in life, we each have to decide for ourselves which risks we are willing to manage and which benefits matter most to us.

    Keep calm and carry.

Don't OC as a rule, but do carry concealed.
Saw first OC'er this past Sunday, at a Rest Area on HWY59 between Texarkana and Marshall.
Wife saw him before I did, said "there goes one of you buddies".

Exercise of a right doesn't matter whether you "see the point" or not. It's just important that the person exercising the right sees the point. No disrespect intended, but hey, I think you know what I'm saying.

How?? Walk up behind you a in WM with a bat in my buggy I picked up in sporting goods. Applied to the side of your head and I have a gun now. If you think that couldn't happen dream on.
Of course it could happen. But it's a bunch of ChickenLittleBullShit to sit around and obsess about shit like that as a reason to condemn OC. Carry legally--the way you want, and leave others to their own legal choices. kthnxbai

Know what else I heard? I heard gang members sometimes drive around with their headlights off and kill the first person that flashes them. It's like a gang initiation thing...

I’d love to see any evidence that this, or anything remotely similar, has actually ever happened...?

Try it, and you'll find you have an extra hole or two in your head.

But for sake of argument, show me one instance where that has happened in Texas since OC took effect on 1 January 2016?

    I'll make it easy for you...it hasn't!

Chances are a meteorite could crash down upon me, but I don't cower in my basement over the remote possibility of that happening!

Also, I didn't ask for hypothetical situations, I asked for concrete evidence that such a threat exists; and you have failed to provide any.

As such, I stand by my statement; and the fact that I have been openly carrying for 27 months and have yet to see anyone stupid enough to try to come at me with a baseball bat proves your possible scenario is highly unlikely.

In fact, I could assume (much like you have) that the fact that I OC has deterred someone from doing so on numerous occasions. It's just as likely (if not more so) than your "possible scenario"...

And when these things start happening, folks might reconsider Oc'ing.

The element of surprise and anonymity is powerful.

The element of an armed person is also powerful.

So far though, it seems the open-armed person is more powerful, given the overwhelming percentage of victims are those that appear unarmed, not armed. Something like 99.99999%.

    Just sayin'.

"Fritz", Do you realize that some people spend much of their lives training for and hoping for that?

But, please, back to the question: "What experiences have YOU had while OC'ing in Texas?"

This happened to me in Walmart Sunday
A young guy about the age of 17 or 18 walks up to my side in plain view and asked if I had a permit or license to carry a gun openly
I thought he was being a smart-ass so I sort of blew him off
Then I determined he was just asking out of curiosity because he said his dad was thinking about getting a gun license and he wanted to know if his dad could carry openly and what the requirements were to do it
So I gave him a quick rundown on the process and he thanked me and left

Or, that he is way ahead of you and is carrying a water-gun in that OC holster, while the J-Frame is in his OTHER hand?

But, please, back to the question: "What experiences have YOU had while OC'ing in Texas?"
