Parts of an abandoned liquor still

Also this was in the appalachians, near a stream on a mountainside, a big rock with civil war soldiers named carved in it
It was grown over with moss by the 1970s but you could plainly see many of the letters
Dad said they camped there during the war

Years later I wanted to go back and metal detect there but it's on private property now

You could ask the owner for permission. I have found that most owners will let you hunt on their place if you ask.

I'm a magnet for weird stuff. Other than that just the usual cougars, bears and elks.

No items found other than neat rocks. I do have weird stuff if you want to read it.

Animal wise I came between two bull elk out of site huffing at each other. Another time during winter camping I was hacking some small branches up to get a fire going and it must have been that sound that made the biggest bull I have seen in person come my way. It was pretty foggy out and I turn around to see a pretty tall rack and the bull just checking me out. I went back to cutting wood and he lost interest.

A few bear. So in the summer I prefer to sleep in a cot, no tent, ect. Woke up one night to a bear getting a drink from the pond. Such sloppy drinkers. Anyway only woke up cause no f's are given when they walk. Every branch on the ground was snapping. No problems. Slept fine. The only time I got uneasy was when I woke up to a critter screaming. Probobly rabbit as I had seen them all over that day. That night after whatever it was killed I heard that cat walk on top of a mound just above my cot. Drew my light and 45 from the sleeping bag.

You sure that was a bear stomping around? I ask because from my three experience observing black bears from tree stands, they are pretty dang quiet...much more quiet than small critters like squirrels or martens watched in the same locations.

Not trying to argue, just with wondering if you saw it.

Combined with the screaming you heard, I’m just wondering if it was something “else”....

The two weren't the same night. Sorry for the confusion. The cat sighting was just that. The critter screaming was the classic rabbit squeel. As for the bear that night I got a poor visual. Just eyes. And I figured it was a bear because of the amount of water I heard being chugged down. It was heavy and sloppy. A bit of black fur and eyes is all I seen. My experience with bear in Oregon have shown me they aren't always graceful. I keep my head on my shoulders and think logically. However I will admit a few times almost got to me. If you're talking about the unknown this will perk you up.

This happened on a farm in the rural Willamette valley. A joint project to develop an island by several owners was underway. In some areas the two banks were only feet away. I remember the time at 22:00 ish. Defiantly between 10 and 10:30. Just friends goofing off. We are near a spot that's very close to the other bank. If anything weird happens I swear fog always comes in lol. So its thick out. The maglight can only penetrate just a few feet to the other side. Long story short, what we heard scared the hell out of us. It sounded fast. Pacing back and forth around a 20 yard stretch. But running it? Branches were breaking and it had this scream like a boiling tea kettle and a person. It was frightening really. It was high pitched and the branches sounded thick.

I have found women's underwear, bra's, hats, pants, some teenage girl's keepsake box, porno mags, full case of beer and a stolen car. While my property is somewhat out in the sticks, it's still real close to the city. Since my property is one of the largest wooded areas, closer to town with easy access, there's a lot of unwanted activity on the backside of the property, Which really don't bother us much, nothing down there to tear up or steal. My guess, mostly teenagers just out having fun, except for the stolen car. That full case of beer was def a nice find. It had only been there over night and was still cold, drank around 4 cans before I made it back to the truck ;)
I'd be pissed of teens were trespassing. I'm sure to them it's all fun and games but they're breaking the law and they'll grow up thinking it's okay and they can get away with it... but then again I'm very territorial... I don't like people doing things on my property that I'm not aware of...

I am surprised no one has come up with a Bigfoot Sasquatch sighting. From the news I seem to recall about 14 sightings last year.

On a more realistic note, I am going to rent a metal detector and walk my acreage on the outskirts of Bullard. The town has been here since the 1830's and my lot is almost 100% sand along what used to be an old creek or river bed so chances are some may have camped or lived here a long time ago. Whenever I do any digging in the back, I always find old bricks about a foot or two under the ground which probably means there were buildings or wall here a long time ago.

Once upon a time I was relegated to riding a moped to work each day. It was summer, and I didn't mind that much.

On day I stopped for a red light, and there in the crack in the pavement was a folded up $20 bill.

Another time I was hunting, and I saw several black trash bags near a gravel road. I poked them and the contents were hard, so I opened one up. A crap ton of malt liquor in each bag.

I had heard a rumor that some kids had busted open a box car and stole some beer. My find confirmed it.

And another time when I was around 10 I found a box full of porn. I had never seen porn before. Shocked doesn't quite cover it.

You just jogged my memory. I remember when I first got my license, me and a few of my buddies were driving some back roads just for something to do and we came upon a trash bag on the side of the road. I can't remember why it caught our eye, but when we got out and looked inside it was a bag with a bunch of dead puppies.

I've seen a few species that wildlife biologists and game wardens tell me aren't here.
    Jaguarundi.
    Black mountain lion.
The lost elk herd in the Texas panhandle.
Thanks for the memory jog. I too have seen jaguarundi. Two together, both black & not very large. 5 miles west of Coleman, TX within the last 10 years.
