I thought Ballistol was not petroleum based. I use it quits a bit - particularly on my black powder guns.

Mineral oil base with multiple additives. Quite a remarkable concoction. German medics treated minor cuts and abrasions with Ballistol. Does a lot of other things as well. This and Eezox are always at hand here.

In fact RemOil, Hoppe's gun oil and many other light oils sold as gun oil are simply mineral oil. One can purchase mineral oil at health and beauty supply sales in bulk and return home and refill the empty cans if they like. Its the same stuff more or less. Some have scent additives or color tints to make it appear different.

Aside from Eezox and a couple synthetic products developed, there's been no real improvement in oils and cleansers since 1910. Studies based on laboratory testing and not some guy with sheet metal in his back yard, proved Eezox superior to all others. And no, I'm not a salesman for them either. I base my opinion on 60 years of gun care and 40 years of carrying one as a professional in the worst environments.

    Geeez I'm a long winded old coot aren't I? :)

I agree. I’m a hoppes man myself. I still use clp though. Works good for cleaning but for lube I stick to hoppes
You would not say that if you had dated his granddaughter...I did, with luck not very long, bonafide nut case. Met her at a party in Dallas, she was a looker, she was a Ralph Lauren model. Had issues with jealously, BIG TIME! After a couple of months I dumped her could not deal with her fits of rage and accusations of seeing other women. I will say that in my almost 25 years of being single she ranked up there as one of the few if I saw walking down the street today I would run and hide.

Drifting back to something totally unrelated, like the topic :)
This solvent/lube/preservative is different. The primary solvent is chlorine based and evaporates not long after application (usually 20~30 min). Its not as fast as Barnes CR10 for copper removal or as kerosene for lead, but it does work. Continues use will show less metal fouling and easier cleanup over time.
I had a Marlin XLR-7 in .30'06 that would be copperplated after 15 rounds. Hoppe's #9 got it out after an hour. Barnes CR10 would take 25 min. But after about 5 cleanings with Eezox there was less in the bore before cleaning and clear of copper in 15 min. [Includes a brief soak of 5 min.] After the last clean dry patch, one wet patch. A quick once over with a couple drops in a shaving brush, and off to the cabinet to dry. Very simple and easy. Same way with my little black rifle the leftist meatheads hate. Totally clean and done in under 10 min. And I mean clean!

Pull down your mags. Clean them inside and out with Eezox and the followers and springs will glide inside the mags. Being a dry lube, fouling and dust won't stick to anything. Amazing.

Ok, you may return to the Psychopath Ex-Girlfriend Channel where Ole Cowboy was asking his whackjob female companion if her parents had any children that lived....

I bought some of the Lucas gun oil recently. Have not tried it yet, but their other products are fantastic.

Strait Lucas Gun Oil [the red stuff] is pretty good gun oil. Light on odor. Has a decent viscosity and will stay on a 1911 slide well. The other Lucas gun products are primarily kerosene or similar solvents. Their CLP is a joke. But yes, their plain red gun oil is good.

The one I bought is greenish blue.
