I think that the moral of the story (okay, one of several) is that you don't rely on a handgun for defending your home. A rifle, preferably in a battle rifle caliber, would seem to be much more effective.

What handgun? There wasn't one taken from the house as belonging to the homeowner? It has kinda disappeared.

And weapons used to shoot the PO's, 9mm, 223, what??

Good that at least one person is calling for a third party investigation.....Texas Rangers would be preferred over the FBI, I would think......FBI has their own credibility problems right now.... I would bet the Rangers are already all over it....

Texas Rangers don't sugar coat corrupt and bad policing. They are the best choice.

A legally blind disabled old guy shot 4 heavily armed invaders that kicked in his door with a 357 revolver. I seriously doubt he would have been any more effective with a battle rifle.

No, he didn't - that .357 has never appeared in any official documents, and I don't believe it ever existed. HPD breached the door, an HPD officer fired (either ND or intentionally shot the dog), all the other HPD officers opened fire and shot each other and the 2 unarmed homeowners.
Then, to add insult to injury, the HPD officers on scene reportedly denied medical care to the homeowners and prioritized the same clowns that shot each other, leaving the (innocent) homeowners to bleed out.
Every single officer that was on the scene needs to be charged with murder, and Goines needs the needle - and I'd love to see the supervisors responsible for allowing bad cop Goines to keep his badge charged as well, they contributed to these deaths.
Ass-evado is talking about filing comparatively minor charges against Goines, likely in a ploy to make this go away, but it just keeps getting worse for the whole department. HPD needs to purge the cancer from the top down!

I understand what you’re saying, and I’m not taking anything away from that. I was just making a smart assed comment to someone drawing what I felt was a ridiculous conclusion.

Way back when it happened, it was reported (by HPD, I think) that male homeowner shot PD with a .357 and that female was shot by PD as she was going for a downed officers weapon.

But when the inventory of seized items was released there was no .357 on it, just 2 rifles and 2 shotguns as best I can recollect.

Honest question because I haven’t been following all the links.

Is this information based on verifiable reports or is it the product of speculations (with or without merit) and rumor?

Ex: I’ve seen several posts stating the the man was rumored to be legally blind and as the thread progressed the word “rumored” was dropped and the legally blind aspect now seems to be accepted as fact without any posting that I’m aware of which confirms he was actually legally blind.

In the first few days, lots of misinformation was floating around, most of it from HPD pressers, which was then reported by the press.

Also, legally blind does not mean can't see light or shapes:
"Legal blindness is a level of vision loss that has been legally defined to determine eligibility for benefits. In the United States, this refers to a medically diagnosed central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with the best possible correction, and/or a visual field of 20 degrees or less. See the Blue Book Disability Evaluation Under Social Security . Often, people who are diagnosed with legal blindness still have some usable vision"
    http://www.afb.org/info/blindness-statistics/key-definitions-of-statistical-terms/25

I used to work with a guy that was legally blind, but he could still see well enough to stock produce in a grocery store.

I don’t disagree with any of this, but it didn’t really answer my question.

Thought I did, but let me try this: I believe it came from either one of the HPD pressers, or it was something the press dug up on their one, which was likely reported here and linked back to the source early in the thread. But I am not going back and rereading each thread for the beginning to find it.

Edited to add: Just realized you were referring to the 357 and not the blindness. Sorry. Agree with Hoji's most recent post regarding inventory and no 357.

And somewhere in this thread is a photo of the form with the recovered firearms recovered listed on it.

    No handguns.

Did we watch the same thing? The moral of the story I got from that video was

I’m not LE, but I wasn’t aware it’s standard practice to destroy a crime scene while collecting evidence.

.......As for the Chief, I think we all think he is an asshat but should he be blamed for this? I don't think so. ....
What will the determinations say about the culture of HPD? .... .

Good post, in general, just a couple of FWIW's/IMO's from the peanut gallery:

Down through the years our law enforcement organizations (armed) have taken on much of the trappings, organization, and tactical mindset of our military.

One of the methods our military institutes for keeping it's units (armed) free from inefficiency, piss poor performance, and corruption, including the political kind, is the practice of pruning from the top down.

IOW, it is rare that the Captain of that ship involved in a collision, or of the Arty CO unit that killed with friendly fire, is not immediately relieved of command ... and that oftentimes goes both up and down from there.

If you're gonna wear stars, bars and fruit salad, look like a cheap South American dictator, AND ultimately command the practice of armed tactical military operations upon US citizens ... Acevedo should be held to the same standards and arguably needs to go.

Again, not arguing ... just another perspective on a many sided issue.

You should send that as a letter to the editors of the various local newspapers.
