I always thought of the M9 as the AK47 of military handguns
You could clean them with motor oil and a rag and they just kept working
And they never fired if they were dropped

It's just a German P38 in its guts.
That's how I think of it.
Germans made good stuff and still do.
Of course SIG is mostly German.

I just want to point out it wasn't me saying this for once.

While on the dog-tired subject of obsolete 1911s:

I shot my buddy's Wilson Combat CQB Commander just last Sunday.
Until one gets above about the $3,500.00 range 1911s are just not worth owning!!!
    :(

It was sort of nice in the way that Scarlett Johansson is sort of attractive.

There are dozens of manufacturers making new 1911 pistols that are better than any poly gun out there.
I have two Wilson 1911s. One is a 45 and the other is a 9mm. Both are great and shoot very well. I also have some $750 Springfields and Colts that are are very close in performance.
Polymer gun are great for what they were designed for, but I prefer to shoot a 1911 when I am at the range.

Can you name some major military units or law enforcement agencies that are issuing these great new 1911 pistols as primary duty weapons?

Clearly the infinite debate here is based on the infinite number of ways various shooters define "better".
Maybe this thread will definitively define it once and for all.
And maybe bats will fly out of my butt.

HRT, off the top of my mind. I believe USMC has discontinued the M45. When I retired in 2016, they still had it.
So nobody you can think of is currently issuing a 1911 pistol as a primary duty/carry sidearm?

As far as I can recall NRH was the last PD up in the metromess that toted 1911s but switched over to the Plastic guns seems like six or seven years ago. Low bids are nice for budgets.

If the lowest bid is what makes a PD select a gun, then why didn’t they go with Hipoint?

Ector County Sherrif’s Office, Pecos County Sherrif’s Office, and as mentioned above the FBI’s HRT. And some Combat Marines are still given the option to carry a 1911.

Not sure on that. They were picky about what kinda 1911s they carried. Seems like only allowed Colts, Kimbers and Springfields and the cops had to buy the guns themselves. Musta got in a penny pinching mode when the city decided to furnish the guns.

Money is a major factor for any military or police force. Lower price means more units for the money.
Of course the Police and Military are switching to poly guns. They weigh less and hold more rounds. Are they better, hell no! But they will "kill". This is like comparing a Rolex watch to a Citizens watch. They both keep time, but I would rather have a Rolex any day.

I read that Glock lost out to Sig because Glock wouldn't provide the weapons at the price the Pentagon wanted. Is Sig the better weapon. I say no.
    I have an FDE P320c and a new P320 M17.
I also have a few Glock 19s. Except for the Glock "2x4 handle" I would much rather rely on my Glock then my M17. No matter what you think about a Glock, the damn thing will always work.
I don't hate poly guns, but I much prefer to shoot my 1911s when I go to the range.
