A guy at Vox got upset with Crowder and has tried to get him banned. Steven Crowder has been demonetized, but as a result many, many other smaller sites have too. (A series of Tim Poole videos has been following this). Not only are they targeting so called hate speech, but even words that come close to what might be considered an improper moniker in a video is being demonetized or removed.
Ahhhh I just looked it up now. I know that fag from vox since crowder has talked trash about him before

Taking away YouTube's right to moderate the content on their website would similarly destroy the right for the moderators here to do their job as well, plus on all the other forums. Many forums would go away as a result.

When the sickle swings on civil rights, a lot of unintended cutting occurs.

    That is losing money.

Is there any far left leaning sites not losing money that sided for the last couple years that Trump was colluding with Russia? Unfortunately they seem to want to drag everyone else down with them.

I did put a like on your post, as I tend to agree.

Except that what YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook do is not really "moderating". It's censorship at the least and shadowbanning (worse, in my opinion) on a regular basis. Yes, they may do some moderating of some types of content that should be blocked (kiddie porn, for example), but I don't feel that's where their heart is. I ditched FB over a year ago, it was getting so bad. Twitter is getting almost as bad lately...

Certainly I agree that the 1st amendment is about the government controlling free speech, but should public forums, platforms have unlimited control of speech?

Sure, one could say not to use Google (YouTube), Facebook and Twitter, but none other have the capacities of international information that these do. I certainly wouldn't be in favor of a platform that was more conservative that censors speech because someone isn't conservative enough.

What's going on now looks to be leading towards like what's been happening in Canada, where it's not just what you say, but the words you use that can not only get you censored, but can land you in jail.

Their current BS will backfire, just as all leftist BS eventually hits the slingers in the back of the head like a boomerang.

YT is useful for finding detailed info on repairs for everything under the sun. I’d never rebuild a Mercury outboard and after getting a quote in the fat 4 figure range I did it myself using YT, a forum for Q&A, and a factory repair manual. Took a while to get it finished but it was worth it. It runs like a champ.

There are way to download YT vids using the developer tools and debug console feature in most browsers. The exception is Chrome.

Google, Android devices, Win 10 and FB are devious as hell. If folks only knew theyd never use those products ever again.

Is that like saying, as long as we have all this content on YouTube we shouldn't worry about new content?

Warning, I’m Going off on a tangent.

    Rant on *****

if you know how to find the url directory path to the actual video on the YT server host, you can pull it off the site directly or harvest it from your browser cache as it’s playing in buffer. Or use VLC to stream the vid to the player then save it locally. It’s there, it’s just in cache.

The video isn’t running on a YT servers, it’s hosted there and streamed and it’s multicast to your browser cache, buffered, the played from (typically) a temp directory. The caveat being it differs between OS and the browser you’re using.

Firefox Quantum and lower has a multitude of extensions and plugins that can accomplish the same thing with little tech knowledge needed. Click a button, that’s pretty much it.

I Whipped up a Perl script that snags everything with no additional intervention. Works like a champ.

And sanitize when accessing websites that harvest data to maintain anonymity. Tor/VPN/shell account/AWS resident iso images/Mac & IP spoofing being core components

I work in Infosec. My paranoia of the dangers of the web is well deserved and justified. Heard of an entire city or hospital getting locked out of their critical IT infrastructure...payroll, patient data, finance, legal, etc?......the shit happens daily. All the time.

Example..... tiny, minor issues can bite you in the ass when it comes to technology. An energy company, with the largest liquified natural gas pipeline network in the country, suffers an abrupt interstate Corp wide network outage at 7am, can’t send an email, use ther VoIP phones, browse the web, access anything on the LAN, nothing...... much less monitor the thousands of miles of remote LNG pipeline pump stations & valves controlling those pipes. Thousands of employs all over the US, 80+ people in I.T., three hours twidling their thumbs. And still can’t fix shit. And the CIO/CISO realizes they’re WAY over their heads. I get a call, HELP!!.....and I don’t even work for the damn company. That’s the crap I deal with. ALL the time. Because one person did one tiny little thing they shouldn’t have done.

The web is dangerous as FK. Remember that.

My systems run off optical media with non-persistent storage. External data gets sandboxed, hashed, encrypted and Airgapped. If you want to access online music or tv shows or YT be smart about it.

Rant off..... *** I’ve had one hell of a long-ass day. I feel much better now. ***

That doesn’t help when YT deletes channels entirely.

This thread is more about monetization though. YouTube has also blocked vids to the point that they aren’t searchable without a direct url link and won’t even appear on the channels home page.

My concern is not me being able to find videos. My concern is that left unchecked the internet could possibly become a controlled speech medium, where if someone doesn't like you, or what you may post, you can be censored or banned. And when that happens, how long before that becomes normal? If something like controlled speech on the internet becomes normal, how long before the government finds precedence to control speech?

Mainstream media dissemination of half truths, falsehoods, misrepresentations of fact, and unjustified attacks on the credibility of a person with nothing more than rumor, hearsay or innuendo as the foundation of said attacks, has reached new heights during Trumps tenure. It’s about damn time to do something about it, it’s become a national security issue. No different than psych ops propaganda and disininformation. It’s an asymmetric attack and coordinated, and a blatant one at that

National Enquirer headlines with fantastic sensationaled BS stories about public figures is one thing. Dis or misinformation of a nature that manipulates, affects, and impedes effective governing and public policy thru character assassination thru innuendo with ZERO hard facts or evidence, is an entirely different matter. It should be punished quickly and severely.

Putin knows how to deal with that shit. Do you ever hear any of the same hatred and vociferous attacks directed at him? Hell no.

CIA reading room, STRATFOR, RAND, I can think of a multitude of highly respected think tanks. And they ALL see it for what it is and alarmed as FK by it. And he invasion. Yes, it’s a goddamn invasion.

Why do you think Trump is causing numerous shit storms over the matter that could cause him harm re-election? Because he knows what’s going on And he is mightily alarmed by it.

In a rational world would impose a restriction on media coverage and their regional access. And unleash hell using the resources at our .gov disposal. We’ve done it before when the safety, core values and culture of our country was threated. NOW is the time to do it again.
