I can’t seem to find it, but was there (or is there a current case) involving the “town square” 1A argument that you described?

I recall reading about it a while back, but failed to follow-up on the outcome.

Here is one regarding pages of politicians. It uses the words “public forum” instead of town square.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...al-media-foes-u-s-appeals-court-idUSKCN1P11SC

Seems at least certain pages on social media sites are protected.

I’ll look for another case that is more related to your question. Just have to get my Google fu working.

Found the case I was looking for. I apologize for the source.

    YG,

    Therefore...?
You didnt ask me directly but, If I may, therefore limiting content is the same as limiting speech and expression. They shouldn't be allowed to limit anything. Nothing good will ever come if we head down this road.

It will take time but these tech giants will be forced to stop this or a antitrust suit will coerce them into it.

Look around, the limiting of offensive speech is already here. Other western countries are already criminalizing their defination of hate speech. Colleges repeatedly attempt to enact free speech zones despite constantly losing lawsuits. They act like racist in the south used to by attempting to charge special fees to those whose ideas they dont like or enacting huge hurdles that you must overcome.
Sounds just like poll tax and voter testing to me. Same tactics. The also allow hecklers mobs to stifle speech and certain cities forbid police to protect people from these mobs. Again, think historically. Sound like how Hitler and the brown shirts acted?

Make no mistake here, the left cares not about natural rights. Such things are socialism killers. They want nothing short of a authoritarian regime built to their ideals as there is no room for opposing ideas. It ain't for the people or the worker and those who are on their side who think it is are nothing more than useful idiots who will simply be the last group purged, again historically, like Hitler destroyed the brown shirts. Do you think unions will be allowed after the revolution? Let's look at recent history. Nope no unions after the revolution in any socialist state. Cant have free thinkers wor people arrogant enough to think of themselves and not the good of the state.

What scares me is that the left are becoming psuedo religious extreemist like in their feeling of almost a divine right or cosmic destiny to rule their way. Recognize historical parallels? Hitler Stalin Mussolini Mao? Worse, once a religious Extremists group becomes like... say ISIS... where they say convert or die, usually convert and die anyways and your welcome for the salvation of your immortal soul or simply kill all who they deem unworthy, then there is left but one solution. Kill them first.

Allowing the incremental destruction of out natural rights and freedoms only ends in one place. Death of lots and lots of people. Its happend so many times that it is criminal and unfathomable that any non vegetative state person thinks this is ok.

    YG,

    Did you read the article?

SCOTUS has ruled that social media in modern times is an integral part of the first amendment right.

Read it again and pay attention to the language used by the justices. All of it is setting up the groundwork to make the case that social media is no different than your telephone service.

I really don’t think you read the article.

    YG,

No, I didn't and wonder why you sound annoyed?

I wasn't in the least challenging.

I was looking for your conclusion without rancor.

... The thing is, what platforms can I go to that are like Google, Facebook and Twitter where I can get the same information that I do now? (with the exception of Twitter that I don't use).
Yeah, that kind of becomes the crux of the question. They own the platforms, so they can dictate the rules. We get that. But once they are the 900lb gorilla of the Interwebs, are there even good alternatives?

Some are available; you will have to judge if they are adequate, or not:
Google: Bing.com is not bad, even though it belongs to Microsoft; DuckDuckGo is getting better all the time (especially Android app)
Facebook: Good luck, but MeWe.com does exist; it has way fewer users, so not much punch. Some nice features.
Twitter: A lot of folks are going to Parler. I think if Trump jumps over to Parler, it may spell the end of Twitter (which works for me, because Jack is an @ss).
    Party on.

I don’t know how my text “sounded”. I simply made the observation that you likely didn’t read the article based on your response.

Odd that you would have all the information needed given to you in a simple link, yet you made the choice not to accept it. Not going to spend my time answering your questions when you are unwilling to burden yourself with 90 seconds of reading though. It would be a bad investment.

    YG,

    I didn't see it - no doubt, I wasn't paying enough attention.

As for the word 'sounding' and getting angrily semantic, I'm going to guess a bug crawled up your ass.

For ****'s sake, what are you pissed about?

I do hope you get over your peevishness.....

You should find a better use for your time than trolling. Calling everyone angry just makes you look a little bit silly.

    Not everyone, you.

So, I didn't see the link or yes I would've looked into it. Didn't ignore it, just didn't see it.

Responding the way you did, call it whatever you care to, caught me by surprise and wonder.......

I hope you wake up on the right side of the bed by tomorrow morning.

If you think you didn't act less than friendly, what would you call it?

    Courteous?

    Friendly?

Peevish, yeah, that's what I'd call it.

But go ahead act like you did, but please don't deny it was a bit, irrational.......

    You’re being silly.

You recently made the same accusations towards another member who had shown no hostility. I believe it’s often called “projecting”.

Courteous is a pretty good description, and I do appreciate it. I try to give good links to info and it’s nice when someone notices. You missed it at first somehow, even though it was a short post with the link dead center in blue text, but it happens. What matters is that you were willing to retract your previous statements and appreciate that I was courteous enough to post a link with the relevant info.

    Thank you for that.

    .......
This brings us to the anti trust discussion. These companies didnt and couldn't act in such a discriminatory manner untill they became unchallenged monopolies.

It also raises an interesting question regarding weather the internet is infact a public utility and if companies can control access however they want. Also, when a company has a platform that is essentially the "new town square" and is marketed as such and then has become large enough to control the ability of any specific group ideology or even countries or whole continents assess to the ability to Express themselves where should the line be drawn?

So you're saying I should figure out how to get on the dark web before it gets hidden from google searches? I assume when we get to that level of censorship this place will be shut down too, so sending a PM to Ben for advice will likely be out of the question.

(I'm not saying Ben is a master of the dark web, I'm just saying, I don't remember him saying, I have no idea about any of that stuff.)

    YG,

Good to read you're back to yer old sef agin........good on ya.

The problem with your trolling is that you’re not subtle enough and the bait doesn’t look natural. You’ve got to slow down a bit, and you can’t use the same bait every time. It has to be matched to the fish.

Once you’ve got the basics mastered than you can start working on advanced techniques, but I don’t teach those fit free.

Forgive me but what are you talking about? Guess I'm slow this morning but I said nothing about the dark web. The concept that once you become the main public forum for speech and expression you cant then begin to sensor content has nothing to do with the dark web as by its nature it isnt the effigy or embodiment of "new town square".

They didnt start to edit content till they became big enough to impact free speech and expression. Their motives are no different than the infamous Russian trolls, to influence and even control the thought discussion and exchange of ideas to suit their idea of the narrative. They cant be allowed to stifle speech or expression or buy and sell the data of who thinks or says what. Your getting very close to the thought police here if they are allowed to continue down this road.

No one said google had to provide search results and links to illegal activity. As far as google search results are concerned, if they show popular or trending results then they shouldn't be allowed to artificially or editorially push certain links or hide certain links. A perfect example is the recent story about Google's auto complete suggestion if you search Jessie SMOLLETT. Nothing about his fake hate crime or related bs is suggested even though that's the reason people have been searching for him. Still Google's crap isnt the main offender in this discussion, But by controlling what info you find during searches they most certainly can stifle free speech by cutting off access to an audience. They should be forced to act in good faith without skewing real world results.
