My grandfather and my dad both were steam engineers. My dads nickname was 'clear stack' . He ran with no smoke from the stack. That was the most efficient operation. Photographers didn't like that.
That place is a world-class shithole.
Fastest way out of town.
Too bad it’s a round trip.
I'll bet he knew how to run an efficient engine. That was hard work and the easiest day was to have a very clean engine. Did he work in the operating department or the shops? My other grandpa worked in the shops as electrical supervisor. I was a freight conductor. My grandpa was a steam engine boiler man on the SP railroad.
Go ahead and say why. I never served so I don't know about this place. That place is a world-class shithole.
Stories, that's what I liked most about the 40's and 50's. The old folks told stories. We didn't have TV until late 50's. I sat and listened to the old men and women talk about current and past happenings. I still like to tell stories about the old days. But, todays generation doesn't want to hear it unless it is on the cell phone. He did both. Rebuilt boilers for locomotives and also rode the train at times. He was in Texas, mostly Austin and Waco. He had some interesting stories.
Cannon AFB is between Portales and Clovis, NM, world-renowned tumbleweed and dust storm destinations.Go ahead and say why. I never served so I don't know about this place.
