I am declaring that George Bush was as good as President as the many we have had.
This is incorrect. Read Texas 1911's post. The 50k family pays a much smaller percentage than the 250k earner. The 250k earner does not pay "essentially the same tax", he pays a much higher tax in percentage and actual amount. Not so. Look at the math. The family of four bringing in 50K annually will spend a far greater percentage of this income on taxes than the single individual who earns 250K. Not only is there the federal/state/local (in some states) income tax, there are sales taxes, property taxes, auto registration taxes, and a myriad of other taxes and fees. While the single earner who brings in 250K pays essentially the same tax, it is a far smaller percentage of total income than it is for the family of 4 bringing in 50K. So, the greater income earner is getting the same benefits for a far smaller portion of income.
Those who can afford to pay more and continue with their standard of living should expect to pay more. They really don't today and that is the reason the greatest tax burden is placed on the middle class.
I don't understand how any person can really believe this. The $50,000 in extra taxes the 250k person is forced to pay over the 50k person is a LOT of money. That extra tax might mean no new car, no family vacation, etc... This is a marked decrease in standard of living. Who are you to say the 250k person can afford to pay more? Those who can afford to pay more and continue with their standard of living should expect to pay more.
And I quote again:
At $30K for me, I am going to pay $2,279 in taxes at the 2010 rate, estimated. That is 7.6% of my income.
At $50K for a family of 4, would pay $3,058 in taxes at the 2010 rate, estimated. That is 6% of their income.
At $250K a single income earner would pay $64,531 in taxes at the 2010 rates. That is 25.8% of their income.
You can't claim that the $250K person isn't paying their fair share. They are paying over 4 times the tax rate, and 21 times the tax.
I think it's "unfair" that skinman will have a retirement in the Texas Teachers Retirement System while I am forced to pay Socialism Security. His retirement may be there, while mine most likely won't.
I agree that the military should make more, but it's hard to find a career where you can draw full retirement when you are as young as 38. The military get good education benefits also.
I'm with Mr. Redneck on this one....Liberals put that "Pretender" into the oval office in '08.....George Bush was the best Governor Texas had in years, and I am declaring that George Bush was as good as President as the many we have had. I am fed up with the leftist lies about his time in office....Sure he made a mistake or so, which President hasn't ? Our Texas Governor has made a couple of boo boos, which Governor hasn't ? But Our governor is CONSERVATIVE and that is a world away from the mud slinging millionaire from Houston who is a liberal....Put that in your pipe and smoke it !
Don't try to use FACTS for Gods sake...that only confuses him. It really is scary that with no better math skills than he seems to have that he would be teaching school...
Please read my post again. You are focusing on income tax alone and that is only a small part of the total tax liability. It is not only income tax, it is ALL taxes...fuel tax, service tax, sales tax, property tax (county and school district here in Texas); all but 7 states have a state income tax, and some of those also have a local income tax. And, added to this tax burden is and all the fees that are charged for auto registration, licenses, etc. The math clearly shows that the lower the income, the greater the total percentage of the income is paid in taxes. So, when you look at the OVERALL tax burden, not JUST income tax, how is it that you can say that the single individual making $250K/yr is paying a higher percentage of this total income in taxes than the family of 4 making $50K/yr unless you are using some of that Bush "fuzzy math"?
Is this all you can do? Can you make a counter-point to my points?
This is the reason I quit posting on this forum. I see things have not changed...I will limit my participation on this forum to the firearm discussions.
