As a LEO are you going to investigate a welfare call as if everything is safe and sound and nothing will happen? As txinvestigator pointed out calls like these can be dangerous for cops. The guy who requested the welfare check said the front door of the house appeared to be opened and something didn't look right. I sure as hell wouldn't walk into a situation like that casually drinking coffee.

So does that call for not announcing yourself and sneaking around the house? Or is a homeowner supposed to assume that only the police do that? IMO it's the duty of the police to announce their presence before shooting at people in their own home. Everyone has the right to defend themselves and property.

How is it relevant? This being Texas, and the U.S., you're perfectly within your rights to point your guns at people prowling around your property in the dead of night.
Had she seen him first and shot and killed him, she STILL would have been within her rights.

As I already said, it does not make it a justified shoot, but it is certainly a relevant fact.

For example a pro cop DA could easily get a no bill with this fact, as we saw in the other case

Not to belittle the kid, but eyewitness testimony is usually not a reliable or accurate recounting of the events that occurred, so I have a hard time believing what an 8 year old said happened at 2:30 in the morning is an accurate representation of what actually happened.

Let’s see a transcript of what was really said, instead of what’s been released or leaked to a media outlet.

I do recall hearing both, at the same time, early the day after (or day of, since it was very early morning IIRC) the shooting. The neighbor was reported to have made a welfare check call saying that her door was open and lights were on at 02:30 or the like, and it wasn't normal so he was concerned about her.
