Actually Iran told Iraq that missiles were on the way, and Iraq told the U.S.So Iran fires a few missiles that were picked up by early warning stuff 6,000 miles away so the incoming call went out to those affected before impact and it ends up being just a symbolic missile launch with no real casualties. Kinda reminds me of Clinton firing missiles at Bin Laden after issuing a warning to the hosting country.
In the end, Trump takes out a high ranking target and Iran returns a symbolic retaliation. Trump then tells the world Iran is standing down after their launch so oil drops, stock markets rise, and somewhere in there Pelosi delayed taking up the war powers act so Trump could do what he wanted until Iran calmed down.
I'm currently trying to think of how this could have gone better.
Actually Iran told Iraq that missiles were on the way, and Iraq told the U.S.
Basically Iran gets to make a show of force to look tough, doesn't actually hurt anyone or damage much stuff, and everyone can go back to their people, say they acted tough, and let stuff calm down.
Yep! Glad it looks like this is going to calm down. The Iranian missile strike on U.S. bases in Iraq on Tuesday was a calibrated event intended to cause minimal American casualties, give the Iranians a face-saving measure and provide an opportunity for both sides to step back from the brink of war, according to senior U.S. officials in Washington and the Middle East.
There was a picture day before yesterday of a pile of rubble and the rocket motor was laying in it.CBS is saying that intel, satellite and radar observation, and physical evidence all have clear indications that iran shot down that airliner with two surface to air missiles.
I guess I'm a little dense but to what end did they shoot down the airliner??? I'm really not up on Iranian logic.
The target was a Boeing 737-800 and occurred during the initial climb out. I suspect they chose the target and engagement envelope intentionally to portray it as another Boeing MAX-type incident.
The videos circulating absolutely dispel that notion, the debris field indicates an in-flight break up, and the photos of large pieces that have been circulated indicate a prox-fuse frag pattern in conjunction with an uncontained fire. The regime probably thought they could sink Boeing (and the US economy) with that attack.
That it was registered to the Ukraine gives a plausible excuse of a maintenance related failure, as the Ukrainians might be the *best* among the FSU states, they still fall short of western standards and practices for commercial aviation maintenance, if the Boeing association doesn’t stick (which is isn’t so far, for a lot of reasons).
I dont think they did either. Just heightened alert and a twitchy trigger finger.IMHO, they expected a retaliation from us over the missiles they had just launched a few hours ago, and they had the sensitivity maxed out on their missile defense system, which made it designate the airliner as a threat. I don’t believe they did it on purpose.
It's not the countries' choice, it's NATO's NTM-I that made the decision to suspended all training in country and take "necessary precautions to protect its people" (i.e. temporarily redeploy them out of Iraq).
The only thing trudeau is getting to the bottom of is his bfs cockI dont think they did either. Just heightened alert and a twitchy trigger finger.
No boxes, No FAA (understandable), No Boeing.
Trudeau vowed to get to the bottom of it. 65 of his countrymen dead.
Very believable. But I have seen very little news that looks reliable coming out on this story.CBS is saying that intel, satellite and radar observation, and physical evidence all have clear indications that iran shot down that airliner with two surface to air missiles.
