Why loan when they can go to store and buy one?

Once you show you will let folks mooch off you, they will never stop coming to you.

At minimum, sell it to them.

Everything else aside, you can do whatever the hell you want with your property. Not your responsibility to know your relative is competent. He/she is responsible for his/her actions. Yes you can be sued, but you can be sued for anything. If I think you are not going to intentionally do harm, I've lent guns to friends of the wife. My big concern is will I get it back

Wife has some co-workers we’ve become friends with.

He loves guns, always wants to go to the range. Has some experience with shooting Glocks.
    She’s very anti-gun.

    They called us yesterday.
Asked if they could borrow a gun.

I’m on the fence but will likely let them borrow one.

    Calling BS on that.

My buddy had a troublesome brother that got a hole of his pistol and it got taken by a cop and is under investigation. My point is, even if the owner doesn’t get in trouble. Your gun is still in a police evidence locker

If a couple is directly opposed over a fundamental right, there's no telling what else they disagree on. Pour in a liberal dose of Covid scare and you may well find their relationship is incredibly fragile <--- take that for whatever it may mean.

    Choose wisely.

Your last statement is correct, of course.

But it will be returned eventually (speaking from personal experience). If not, that is what insurance is for.

Anyone legal to own in Texas can buy one and legally carry in their glove box (auto) without any training. So the argument that if you loan one you should train too is false. On the other hand I did teach my daughter and grandson proper firearm techniques and I gifted them guns. I personally wouldn't loan a gun, I carry concealed for me and mine only. You want protection that a firearm gives, buy, train, get a LTC, etc.

    It is not false.

You sell/loan a gun and it gets misused, there is risk of a jury finding you liable.

So a gun store is liable if you (legally able to own a gun) misuse it? That may be true in CT but I don't think so in Texas. Now anyone can sue but I don't think that is an issue. I said in my post that I personally would not loan a gun. Incidentally New Jersey gov just closed NICS in that state so the only way to get a gun now is to loan it (illegal there) or steal one (illegal of course).

Why did you move the goals posts and bring in a gun store when I was clearly responding to your comment about ftf loaning a gun?

Training someone to whom you loan a gun (assuming they are not trained) is personal responsibility on your part and caring about the person to whom you loaned.

Don't think anyone here was saying it was a legal requirement. Just common sense.
