Not really. Look at the death rate per capita as a percentage. Sweden is at the top and we are around 8-9th. About 1/4th of theirs IIRC

Death rates can't be tied to a lockdown. A lockdown can only prevent people from getting ill (because you aren't in contact with other people).

Once you're infected, the lockdown is irrelevant. Whether you live or die from then on is only a function of the medical system and the population sample involved.

So it's the number of cases which tells the efficacy of a lockdown. If there are fewer cases per capita, then the lockdown is working -- covid isn't spreading. If there are the same or more cases, the lockdown is doing nothing or even making things worse.

Obviously it's too much to draw the conclusion with certainty because we haven't tested the entire population of Sweden (or anywhere in the world). But if we're making conversation in a forum, and assuming everything else is equal, it really looks like the lockdowns didn't buy anybody anything, IF (and yes, that's a huge 'IF') Sweden can be taken as an example for us all.

The only thing we can say with certainty is that the lockdown destroyed our economy, which will cause all kinds of problems downstream, including many deaths (the correlation between poverty and negative life outcomes is so well studied at this point I'm assuming everyone is aware of it).

The worst part about it, other than that people have passed on from it, is that it may be the end of Trump as president. I hope not but the libs are going to use everything they can against him and that means - everything, including what they caused to make this crisis worse, will be blamed on him by them and people will fall for it on all sides of the political spectrum.

Someone in another thread (or maybe it was this thread) asked me if I could imagine anything that could cause Trump to lose the 2020 election. While I thought it possible, I really could not envision what it would be but I certainly can now and this is it.

Saw a funny post today, "Guess what the next headline will be on CNN? 'Trump ruins economy over what amounted to a normal flu season'"

And yes, the economy collapsing was pretty much the only thing that could have prevented Trump from winning re-election. The good news is that Biden is such a pathetically weak and senile opponent that we still have a chance at winning.
