I have a 338 win mag for elk. It's a browning BAR semiauto so it doesn't kick at all. Just moves you.So, I have reserved a spot to hunt Nilgai,
Unfortunately, I am told that I need and artillery piece to shoot one without pissing it off.
The .300WM was stated as the minimum they required for this hunt, what other calibers are on par with the .300WM?
Absolutely right.Watched Meat Eater episode the other night when Steve hunted those. I couldn't wrap my head around their look. They look like 4 animals in one.
300PRC is gonna hit very hard with factory setup.
7 Remington mag is to fast for the brush & might deflect..45-70? 7mm Rem Mag? 7x57?

I’m just curious what Nilgai and similar were killed with before the modern Ultra Mags.
Before the ultra mags I would say 30/06 & .375 HH along with the heavier Mauser calibers Nilgia are from India. The African Eland is similar. RSA is very similar to South Texas in some regions in terrain & weather.I’m just curious what Nilgai and similar were killed with before the modern Ultra Mags.
Every cartridge is a trade off and African brush ain’t South Texas brush. Certainly there’s a spectrum of cartridges suitable.
Maybe .505 gibs or 500 nitro express?
Cannons never beat well placed shots!30-06
I doubt you'll shoot past 50 yds.
'Course, the "guides" don't want to do any tracking.
So, they recommend a cannon.
