Varget seems to be the powder of choice for .223 and .308 range cartridges right now. Good stuff.
I know the powder used in M118LR rounds is the same as the RL15 but i dont remember what the load was. Thats why i havent started loading my own yet. That is with a 175gr HPBT SMK.
i have the same gun and loaded 150g bthp sierra bullets with 45.5g of vargot powder with a col of 2.80 they shoot great
It can be the same gun, the 1:11.25 twist rate would spit 150 wildly. that is why when you start talking about the rifle Alan is talking about or my which IS an M24 the lightest round you want to shoot from it is a 168gr and the highest 210gr.
well the op is talking about a model 700 with a 24'' barrelIt can be the same gun, the 1:11.25 twist rate would spit 150 wildly. that is why when you start talking about the rifle Alan is talking about or my which IS an M24 the lightest round you want to shoot from it is a 168gr and the highest 210gr.
My 308 likes IMR 4064 with 175 SMKs or 178 Amaxes. I believe 41.4 grains, but I don't have my load data with me. I also load them close to the rifling.
Yes, something like that. Again, no data with me out of town. I loaded at standard length, a little longer, and a little shorter, and closer to the rifling tightened up the groups a bit. Each gun is its own entity though, and it sounds like you have a lot of testing to do. I settled on the 178 grain Amax, and tried about 6 different powders, with 5 different loads each before I got close to the sweet spot.About 20-thou off the lands?
