I know the powder used in M118LR rounds is the same as the RL15 but i dont remember what the load was. Thats why i havent started loading my own yet. That is with a 175gr HPBT SMK.

Probably something around ~41 grains of RL15 with a 175 SMK loaded to 2.600" OAL with LC Match brass.

The gun I have is essentially a short action M24, it has the same barrel. I'm going to shoot the shit out of this gun and rebarrel it in a .260 AI.

It can be the same gun, the 1:11.25 twist rate would spit 150 wildly. that is why when you start talking about the rifle Alan is talking about or my which IS an M24 the lightest round you want to shoot from it is a 168gr and the highest 210gr.

In the summer I might try some 155 Palma's ... but I'm not using a 168 gr. load, it is not well suited for my purposes. Emphasis on the 175.

My 308 likes IMR 4064 with 175 SMKs or 178 Amaxes. I believe 41.4 grains, but I don't have my load data with me. I also load them close to the rifling.

too bad you don't have a .375 this would be teh sexxorz, BC of 1.5

    LM-119 Long range bullet

    22-250-Ackley+LM-71+LM-119-stehend.jpg

That'd be a waste at 1000 yards. I don't know of anyone with enough property to shoot beyond that, which is most of the reason why I'm not opting for a bigger caliber.

Eventually I want to build a .338 based gun, but I want to get this .308 going first, then chambered in .260 AI when the barrel is toast.

    About 20-thou off the lands?
Yes, something like that. Again, no data with me out of town. I loaded at standard length, a little longer, and a little shorter, and closer to the rifling tightened up the groups a bit. Each gun is its own entity though, and it sounds like you have a lot of testing to do. I settled on the 178 grain Amax, and tried about 6 different powders, with 5 different loads each before I got close to the sweet spot.

If you are not shooting in the wind here is my mix... Trimmed fire formed brass, cleaned and flashed primer pocket, 45.5 grns on 4895 pushing a 155 sierra HPBT PALMA.. Same B.C and length as the 175 hpbt but it shoots much more flat.

I have the hornady .308 OAL setup gauges if you wanna figure out where to set your bullets.. My fn spr likes them on the lands.. I hear the 700s like a jump though.

4895 is not a good powder for the summer as you will get velocity jumps... I shoot varget in the summer but MUCH prefer 4895 when the weather is cool/nice out even.

Just got 3 boxes of 208 amax and going to be doing some 300 wsm 30 cal testings soon!
