    Helotes!
Glad he signed it, but everyone still has to remember next year is an election year. He's just trying to get re elected.

Wow, that's so perceptive; a politician wanting to get re-elected!

    Who'd of thunk it?!?

Abbott has been extremely pro-gun during his tenure as governor, and has gotten perfect ratings from the NRA and TSRA.

Even after the back-to-back mass shootings in El Paso and Midland-Odessa, Abbott continued to support protections for gun owners.

In February this year he stated “We need to erect a complete barrier against any government official anywhere from treading on gun rights in Texas," adding that he was pushing to make Texas a “Second Amendment sanctuary state.”

He signed open and Constitutional carry bills, as well as a plethora of other pro-gun laws.

As Texas AG, Abbott was staunchly opposed to gun control legislation.

Honestly, I think some people just like to bitch about him; but I firmly believe he has been one of the best governors this state has seen, and an absolute supporter of gun rights!

To be fair, HB1927 puts some huge barriers to true constitutional carry, especially with the language used in the section changing TPC 30.05. Permitless Carry does not provide equal footing under the law and only allows LTC holders a defense to prosecution, not an exception. Oh yeah, 30.05 now encompasses firearms, not just handguns.

I’m interested is how 30.05 works out in Austin when a frothing at the mouth OCT asshat targets a retarded business owner and an SJW DA gets involved.

Don’t even get me started on .gov officials having written discrimination against LTC holders into the law from day one with 30.06/.07.

My thoughts? While the bill, and now new law, isn't perfect by any means, but IMO, it is a step in the right direction as far as law-abiding citizen's gun rights.

With seeing many states, and even at the federal level, more gun restrictions being tried to be implemented, it's great to see some of our gun rights being restored, or at least being defended.

He signed the best legislation that he could.
I can't fault him for the stuff in it that I don't like.
    He didn't write it.

Exactly. Given a choice in what we now have today, and that will be in effect come this September, or not having it. I'll go with what we got today. It can always be tweaked, and I'm sure that there may end up some court cases that will show that parts need to be revised.

Any politician against the 2nd... "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" is a tyrant & should be treated as such. They take an oath to uphold the constitution & should be removed from office immediately for any bills or laws being pushed to infringe on WE THE PEOPLE.
The 2nd protects all the other Bill of Rights.

So what I read today was that our Governor signed this on the 9th. The media is just now posting it. I know a lot of people have been waiting for this and September 1st it still won't be Arizona. You can buy alcohol in the gun store there. Anybody got a problem with that?

Reminds me of the country song "Beer, Bait, and Ammo" - Jason Boland recorded it if I remember correctly.

Maybe somebody already knows the answer to this, but I wonder if there will be an option to get a new LTC or maintain your old one for traveling to other States that recognize a Texas carry permit.
Yes, it stays exactly the way it already is. Take the class pay your money to the state and if you clear the background check you get an LTC.

Whatever you were reading is wrong as two boys kissing. I’d find better things to read.

And thats the problem with most "citizens" .... the complacency over the last 40yrs. The mentality of "thats the government...what can you do" has led us to where we are at today. If the older generation would have stood up for our rights we wouldn't be having to jump through hoops today for our rights being infringed. The 1st, 2nd & 4th are all in jeopardy because we don't stand up for ourselves. Not to mention how they divide us with RACE, GENDER & WEALTH. And now a days being a PATRIOT & having NATIONAL pride you are considered a homegrown terrorists. Yet creating more division among the classes.

You can buy alcohol and guns at walmart here. If your talking liquor then your argument is a strawman cause the laws of the 2 states are different in that regards and it has nothing to do with guns.

Unless you're talking drinking while carrying then yes one is an idiot to do that.
