What is the most overrated handgun ever made?
    1. Glock
    2. Sig P series
    3. 1911's in general
    4. Walther
    5. HK
    6. Beretta

or chime in with your own opinions.
For the most part I'd have to state that the most over-rated handgun are the ones I don't yet own.

However, in the interests of seriousness I'd think the Glocks are rather overrated.

I don't understand how Glock is overrated. They are rated to be reliable, dependable, pretty accurate, self defense handguns. And they are reliable, dependable, pretty accurate, self defense handguns...how is that overrated ?
    Overrated for a paperweight.

Because the Glock fanboys have made them over-rated. Glocks do exactly what they were designed to do, and they do that job very well. But the fanboys have hyped them as being the only pistol on the market a person needs, and that no other pistol on the market is comparable to the Glocks. And that is false and just wrong. There are way many other pistols from other manufacturers that can do exactly the same thing.

So it's not the Glock, but the Glock fanboys that are over-rated.

True, but every gun has fanboys that think that way about their gun lol. CZ’s, 1911’s, etc lol.

I don't disagree with that in the least, but just my observations, the Glock fanboys are probably the worst.

Glock attracts a lot of those new to guns, and many choose a Glock as their first pistol, and they will extol the virtues and such of the Glocks as if they are the one true pistol, of all pistols.

Query them on their gun experience, or their past ownership of guns, and when you run across a noob to guns, the Glock is his first and only pistol that he has owned, then explain to me how that qualifies that person as being any authority of what is the best? IMO, that person is simply spouting off nonsense.

Also, if you visit some of the brand specific gun forums, there is even a sub-culture among those loyal to particular brand as well.

Some 1911 forums, there are some that think if you don't have a Colt 1911, you don't own a true 1911. Some of the Glock sites, they even get snobbish among specific models of the Glock.

Brand loyalty can run pretty strong with certain brands, and produce it's own groups of fanboys without a doubt.

We didn’t define over rated as a style (I.e. 1911) or a manufacturer (Glock). Those seem to be the predominant arguement . I kind of view the “over rated” argument partially as a price point too. I‘ve read arguments for and against the 1911. Colt IMO is over rated but I think that the Ruger version fits right in at the price point. Same with the Python. It’s a beautiful gun for sure, but does the price make it that much better than a SW 586 that has beautiful bluing as well but can shoot a steady diet of .357? As for the Glock argument, yes there are some tactical fan boys that will argue they are the best thing to come about since sliced bread. I have two myself, and they are terrific pistols for what they are. Dead nutz reliable and go bang every time. For the price point though, they are a reliable pistol with lots of aftermarket support. No, they aren’t as sexy as the steel or alloy framed pistols. Are there better pistols out there? You better believe there are. I think in this thread there will be nothing but opinions where everyone is wrong yet we are all right at the same time.

That's pretty much what I argued some time ago. When you start paying higher prices for a name, it becomes overrated.

you are a shit starter, I'm reporting you to the admins. :D

My list would have to be

    1. Taurus Judge
    2. The American Arms mini revolver
    3. Any makarov (especially @robertc1024's )
    4. M17 (Sig P320)
    5. Any 44 magnum. They aren't fun to shoot.
Have you tried 44 Specials. Piece of cake to shoot.

44 Magnums are easy to shoot as well. I reload, so most of mine are not running max on powder charges, but are still a bit stouter than 44 Specials. Unless there is a need, I don't see any advantage in running max powder charges in any load I put together.

If you feel there is need to always run maximum powder charges in your handloads, it might be a sign to step up to a more powerful cartridge than what you already have.

Even 240 gr factory loads were comfortable to shoot with my 7.5” Ruger Redhawk Hunter I used to have.

Had a pachmayr decelerator that I swapped back to factory wood for and even then it wasn’t too bad, but 44 specials were something else entirely. Very fun to shoot.
