Oh so now we’re getting into OCD behavior, which can definitely be called odd…

My mom repeatedly checks doors, windows, oven and stove. Windows that haven’t been opened for years, still gotta check them whenever she left the house, and before bed every night. Stove and oven dials checked and rechecked to ensure they’re off.

She would clean, reclean…at least our house was immaculate. But many surfaces got rubbed-through.

I had ocd in a bad way when I was younger. I still have some minor issues with it…but I remember when I first moved out, I would also repeatedly check doors when I left the house. It got to the point where I’d often turn the car around, go back home and recheck the doors.

Was late to work several times because of it.

OCD is really, really hard to overcome. There’s really no effective therapy for it.

When this was first mentioned, it automatically reminded me of my grandmother. She would have to check everything several times before leaving the house.

I think it might be an older generational thing rather than OCD. Thinking back, i can now recall many older people that would check things a few times before they left home.

If this older guy doesn't check it several times, I may not remember, for sure, that I checked it at all...

When I was young, I worked for a furniture store in a small town. There were customers out in the country who learned not to trust banks back during the Depression. They kept money buried in jars or coffee cans in the yard. We'd deliver a refrigerator and give them the bill. The wife would keep us distracted with cookies or asking questions about the refrigerator while the husband went outside. He'd come back with the money and it would sometimes be moldy or smell damp. The bills might be 30 years old. Our boss had instructed us how to behave, so we patiently went along with that. I remember one house where we delivered a chair or table and the kitchen stove was wood or coal fired. The old lady was cooking something on it, but the whole kitchen was a little smoky.

Visiting my Dad's uncle in Florida when I was young and a neighbor came over to borrow a couple of nails. Uncle John went in the garage and got out a big glass jar, then pulled out a couple of rusty, bent nails and proceeded to straighten them (mostly) with a hammer before giving them to the neighbor. As far as I could tell, he never threw anything away.

My Dad had 2 old spinster aunts that we hated to visit. They were strict as hell and pretty much hated everything and everybody. They had a basket in the hall closet that had toys we could play with. We got out some stuff and were playing Old Maid when Aunt Mary came rushing up and grabbed the cards. "We don't play cards on the Sabbath!! How dare you gamble on the Lord's Day!!" I was probably 6 years old, and to this day I don't know how that cold be construed as gambling. Of course they didn't approve of alcohol, but one cabinet in their kitchen was full of jars of homemade brandy of some kind that an old friend of theirs made. According to Aunt Mary, it was for "medicinal purposes only". She must have had quite a few medical emergencies, because they went through that stuff pretty fast. She had a goiter the size of a softball, but she refused to get it removed. She said she wasn't going to let anybody cut on her as she intended to die with her boots on.

I used to work for a friend in a car shop. He was great with tools, not great with people. He had this peculiar quirk where if you came in to talk to him, he may not respond. At all. In any way. No facial expression, no words, no gestures, nothing. Just sat there.

Most people didn't know him well enough to understand that he was fully aware of everything you said, and had nothing against you, he was just taking his own time formulating his response. Sometimes it would literally be best to walk into his office and say what you needed, then just walk right back out and wait for him to come to you.

I’m just concerned about the water or humidity, ruining it, or getting older than 59 and forgetting then my wife and son would probably never find it. Okay I’m sorta weird I guess

    Brains,

Could he have had the Ass-Burgers?
Possibly, but I don't think so. He ran the normal range of emotions, wasn't exceptionally gifted in a narrow area beyond his wealth of hard earned experience, and otherwise is a completely shall I say 'typical' guy. He just had that one quirk.

My grandparents were depression kids. I always thought it was weird that grandma would save the foam trays meat came in from the store. She would use them to feed her deer flock and birds in AZ decades ago. When grandpa got Alzheimer's we moved them back to San Diego and cleaning out the house we found several piles of foam meat trays... It was always weird to me.

I also worked with an interesting character for a few years, though he died a couple years ago now. He would leave his work truck door open when he was on a job. His theory was he wouldn't have to waste time opening the door again when he was leaving. I thought he was BSing us when he told us but then I met him at a job one day and sure as shit his door was wife open. He was a wired guy. I could go on with stories about him. And go figure his last name was Crowley.

I will make sure the doors are locked at night but that is about it. Do not shake the door nobs though.

Used meat trays are huge bacteria sponges!

Eccentric people tend to have bad ass gardens! Those gardens go beyond basics too. Their canning abilities are off the charts too! I remember eating things I never seen in stores
