Kind of a personal preference really. Me, I’m looking for pre-hillaray hole and preferably pre-mim s&w .357 mag. Ruger is good for SS.357 or .44 mag, but can’t beat the bluing of the older S&W. They are just so Purdy. Just my humble opinion.
    I'll check that out!

So you own 2 S&W revolvers but I have no idea what models they are. I have many. My next one will be a Ruger GP100 in 357 mag, just because. That's if I can find one.

Is that GP hard to find? And the black one is a S&W 329PD 44 mag and the other one Is a 686 7 shot deluxe 357 mag with a 6in or 6.5in barrel. Don't remember lol

I have an assortment and it would be really hard to choose a favorite.
But if I could only have one or two, I'd choose a snub nose 38 Special and/or 22LR. The 22 because its fun to shoot and ammo is relatively cheap. The stubby 38 because its most practical for concealed carry and has enough power for personal protection - why not 357? Because its way too painful to shoot from a small/light stubby!

What is a must have revolver? I'm trying to decide which one should be my next one, just got my second one 2 days ago and itching for the next! These are the two I currently own View attachment 272916
Lots of people like a .45 Colt SA, but how about an S&W Mod 25 instead?

Single-action revolvers are a must-have for a fun range day. Start with a Single-Six or Bearcat.....then move up to one of the Blackhawk Convertible in .357/9mm or .45Colt/.45ACP. When you build up the courage, get one of the BFRs in your favorite rifle caliber.

    Single-action revolvers are fun.....
    Counterpoint.

Buy a cheap Heritage in 22lr.

After the range trip decide if you want to step it up in the commitment to that particular design.

    You might love it.

Or you might take my attitude toward it.

Is there a slower and more cumbersome way to load, shoot, and reload 6 rounds of ammo? Plus the grip was designed by a guy with some sort of mutant hand. The sights are only good for popping open a beer to forget the 2 hours it took you to shoot one box of ammo.

Shoot them? Sure. Own them? Nope.

There's your unpopular opinion for the day.

GP100s aren't hard to find if you are willing to pay full msrp. Used for a great price are fewer and far between.

They're tanks and great guns that will outlive us all.

The triggers really smooth up nicely but it takes a bunch of rounds to get there.

    Definitely one of my favorites.

I like the S&W's also. Shooting a .44 magnum, I like a heavier model for less recoil. Now a .357 magnum, this one shoots like a dream. Not as sexy as the older models, but superior in shooting IMO.

That's a good choice....if you want to turn the OP off SA revolvers. If you want to go cheap, get a Wrangler. But you get what you pay for....

You can run .38 specials through a .357. I have a Ruger SP-101 2.25” barrel that isn’t too bad to run the mags through, but is down right enjoyable with .38 specials

OP - Since you are a S&W guy, how bout this Model 57 Classic .41Mag? Ammo might not be easy to find, but I really enjoyed shooting the one I had. Available in longer barrel if you prefer.

And don't hate on me too much, but my wife has one of these that she used to carry. Shoots .357 like a soft .38spec. Smooth trigger but I changed the trigger spring from 12lb to 9lb for her.Taurus 605/606/etc: (Never had a bit of trouble with it!!!)
