Volko Supply, http://volko.com, on Long Island in Garden City Park just outside if NYC by maybe 5 miles or so. It's a father/son (both gentlemen and gun guys) building supply store. Some of their customers would walk in, see a gun transfer taking place and get all wide eyed with surprise.

They only transfer(ed) long guns and also do (did) the required NICS checks for private sales and ammo deliveries. We are talking about NY requirements under the NY SAFE act. FUAC - the AC stands for Andrew Cuomo, you can guess the meaning of the FU.

Best place in which I've ever done a transfer and did quite a few therein.

I forgot the name of the place, but there use to be an old guy who ran a small shop out of his house in Lampasas. Just had stacks of paperwork and gun crap on a kitchen table. One room full of guns and part of the kitchen. Very disorganized. Still bought a GB Mini-14 from him. Long gone now.
    Bob at The Bore House?

Been there a few times if that's the one you're thinking of. I only remember it being a gun shop though, not his residence.

It was a house at one point though and still looked it from the outside.

And yeah, it's closed now. Not sure why though but he was an older man.

I know my brother in Leander ordered a rifle from his Snap-On guy right from the rape van.

If memory serves my brother in MN did the same.

Not sure if they took advantage of the easy payment plans......

I suppose so. There was a gun shop run out of a storage unit on Kuykendahl in Spring a few years ago. I was in there once and it was an OK small shop mostly interested in AR builds.

I had some work done by a gunsmith (who had some sort of FFL but I never bought anything through him) who worked out of his house on Hillcroft, just north of Hwy 90. The place was amazing. He had a formal living and dining room where the walls were completely lined with couches. On the couches, stacked at least 3 deep, were rifles. Most of them were benchrest rifles but there were plenty of others. There were other couches, all of them loaded down with rifles, in other rooms. At minimum, there were several hundred, maybe over a thousand. It was stunning to see.

Those weren't even his good guns. The good guns were in one of the safes in a bedroom that served as his office.

Bottom line, he appeared to live in his bedroom and the kitchen; the entire rest of the house was filled with rifles. And this was literally 50 feet from all the traffic passing by on Hillcroft, in a not-very-good neighborhood, in a house that didn't seem to have any special security.

That sure sounds like the same house/guy Ben.
I can't remember where it was.

I believe that was it. It's been 10 years or more since I went there.

Not so much odd as maybe raising an eyebrow, but both my wife and I have used a kitchen table FFL near our old house that stuck out a little. Nice guy, seemed appropriately cautious considering the kitchen table was covered in guns and assorted related stuff. Covered. Stuff stacked on the floor, and against the walls. Just enough room to sit and fill out the 4473.

I use an FFL that's impossible to find. You have to know the guy. On his farm, back behind his house, is an old barn. The tin on the roof and the walls is rusting in places. The 16' tall sliding doors are off the rails and don't work good. Looking in the barn you just see a dirt floor, hay, tractor parts, and some odds and ends farm stuff. But back in the corner there is a walled off area with a locked steel door. If he takes you inside that door you are basically inside a safe that is roughly 16x20 feet. What's inside is amazing. He is also a pretty good gunsmith.

I used to buy all my guns and do transfers at a movie theater. So that's kind of odd I guess.
Are you talking about that filthy range in the old theater in Pasadena? They did business in the lobby. Some fool thought poorly poured concrete lanes were a good idea. Like shooting in a dudgeon. Smoky and dank. Went there once and you could see the rain coming through the ceiling. If you shot their target holders, you had to pay to have them repaired. Once was enough for me, never went back and hope they are gone. It was a scum hole
